LPSO Financial Crimes: BEWARE of IRS Scam Circulating; BOLO for USB Flash Drives

A Livingston Parish resident received a package via the U.S. Mail. Upon first glance, it looks as though it’s an official mailing from the US Department of the Treasury/Internal Revenue Service (IRS).▫️

Included in the package:
🔹An official-looking letter with the resident's personal identifiers and instructions on how to prevent ID Theft.
🔹USB flash drive with the IRS logo taped to it. On the flash drive is a digital copy of the letter and malware that will be downloaded when you connect it to your computer.
🔹The Malware is a remote-viewing program that will allow the scammer to access your PC - giving them access to your banking information and any other personal information stored on it.▫️

If you receive one of the packages, contact LPSO to file a report. ▫️

USPS and the IRS have been notified of the incident. It is being investigated.
