Trump Accounts Available Through the U.S. Treasury (Starting July 2026)

Beginning July 2026, families will be able to open and fund Trump accounts through the U.S. Treasury. These accounts are designed as starter IRAs for children, with special rules that apply until the child reaches age 18.

Key Features of Trump Accounts

Available for children under age 18

Nondeductible contributions of up to $5,000 per year

Contributions:

Do not require taxable compensation

Do not count toward normal IRA contribution limits

Limited investment options

No distributions allowed until age 18

Federal “Starter” Contribution

Children born between 2025 and 2028 will receive a one-time $1,000 contribution from the federal government once an account is opened.

This contribution does not count toward the annual contribution limit

Funds grow tax-deferred inside the account

Actions to Consider Now

Be sure to open a Trump account once available to ensure eligibility for the free $1,000 federal contribution

IRS Issued Paper Checks To Be Phased Out Starting in 2025

The Internal Revenue Service, working with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, began the process of phasing out issuing taxpayer refunds via paper check earlier this year. For 2025 tax year returns, if a return is transmitted or mailed without direct deposit information, the IRS will mail the taxpayer a letter, Notice CP53E. Taxpayers who respond to the notice may receive their refund within normal processing times. If a taxpayer does not respond to the notice, the IRS may delay issuing a paper check for up to 6 weeks.
