One Big beautiful Bill, update #1

Tax brackets are lower, and based on tax brackets alone, it appears you will save taxes across the board. When factoring in limitations such as the SALT cap, this may not be the case.

This is one update of many.

It may feel like ancient history, but it was only three months ago today President Trump signed into law the One Big beautiful Bill. The sweeping tax bill extending many tax cuts from the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act, and added some new provisions.

As the 2025 Tax year comes to an end; and the new 2026 Tax year fast approaches these next two months are the optimal time to figure out and navigate your situation! Whether it be financial & tax planning for your small business, or just for yourself, does not hurt to see how the new provisions will affect you!

Over the next several weeks, I will explain these updates in detail; here is a brief list:

The first except from Rework, amazing business book, I'd like to summarize and share my thoughts on, the first of the book in fact: The New Reality

It is the most important to note. We are no longer in a world where you need immense seed capital or a large office to start your business. You can start at home, off your personal laptop and grow from there. While working full time at another job, you can put in as little as ten hours a week to get started. The world does not need a full force like that anymore. The digital marketplace has made it easier (NOT easy still)

As a CPA, I've experienced this myself years ago. I started on the side, with minimal technology and clients. Overtime, I increased my tools and software allowing for more efficiency.

Similarly, you can be a landscaper on the side, with a full time job. Start with a lawn mower, and cut the grass only on Saturdays. Overtime, increase your business add on additional days. As your capital and business grows, invest in a leaf blower, hedge trimmer, and edger next. This is part of the new reality.

Now, running a medical practice however, is not nearly as easy to setup as a landscaping company. You need a private office, technology for billing and HIPPA compliance, and equipment to help your patients. but it is in fact still less difficult to open or run your own practice compared to fifty years ago.

I recently revisited one of my favorite business books — Rework by Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson — and it completely reshaped how I think about running, and starting a business. Instead of keeping those ideas to myself, I’m going to share my favorite takeaways and quotes from the book right here on LinkedIn, along with my own thoughts on how they apply today. Think of it as a mini book club for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and builders.

I hope you enjoy what I have to share. As a CPA serving small businesses, this is a book I recommend to all colleagues & clients.
