IRS Form 2290 aka the Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return

The HVUT tax year runs from July 1 through June 30.

You must file Form 2290 if you are the owner of a heavy highway motor vehicle registered in your name and the vehicle meets the 55,000-pound weight threshold. This applies to owner-operators, trucking companies, fleet owners, and leasing companies.

After filing, the IRS returns a stamped Schedule 1, which is an official document you must present to your state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to register your vehicle or renew your license plates.

Funds collected are used for the construction and maintenance of U.S. public highways.

MEET THE TEAM 👋

Elizabeth A Tedford-Miller is our newest team member at Legacy Tax Services.

Liz joined Legacy three years ago as a tax preparer who specializes in multi-year tax filing and amendments for individuals, families, and businesses, and financial reviews for non-profits and religious entities. For over 20 years she has worked in corporate finance through accounts payable, accounts receivable, and auditing.

She's available for in-person appointments at the Pikesville location and virtual appointments via Zoom.

Liz was born and raised in Flint, Michigan and is an alumna of Mott Community College. She's an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Baltimore, serving in many roles including Treasurer and Minister of Music. In her spare time he enjoys traveling, cooking for large gatherings, shopping small and local businesses, and singing with the Community Concert Choir of Baltimore under the direction of Marco K. Merrick.

Lauren Pierce is a Founding Team Member at Legacy Tax Services.

She is a proud alumna of the The University of Baltimore and Capitol Technology University, and holds legacy membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.

Lauren specializes in tax filing and amendments for individuals and families as well as gig workers and small businesses in the Baltimore Metropolitan, Southern Maryland, DC, and Northern Virginia areas. She's available for in-person appointments at the Alexandria, Virginia location and virtual appointments via Zoom.

Lauren was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a long-time dog lover who enjoys dog-sitting, traveling, supporting small businesses, and shopping.

Timothy McFadden is Co-Founder and President of Legacy Tax Services.

As a proud alumnus of Bowie State University and a 30 year Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Tim started Legacy while working full time so that he could build a legacy for his family and help other people do the same.

Timothy specializes in tax preparation, tax planning, and consultancy for small businesses, non-profits, and religious entities. He's available for in-person appointments at the location as well as virtual appointments via Zoom.

Timothy was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. In his spare time he enjoys solo and group travel, caring for seniors and elderly, supporting small businesses, and singing with the Community Concert Choir of Baltimore.
