CALLING ALL BUSINESSES!!
BUSINESS SUMMIT EVENT: BEYOND THE BACKGROUND: POTENTIAL OVER PAST

The annual Business Summit Event hosted by the Workforce & Business Development Program (W&B) at the Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 14th, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Grace United Methodist Church’s Family Life Center located at 104 S. High Street, Waverly. This year's theme, "Beyond the Background: Potential over Past," provides employers with actionable tools, local and state resources, and ongoing guidance to expand their workforce by successfully hiring and supporting individuals re-entering the labor marked, including those in recovery and justice-impacted individuals.
During the summit, employers will learn strategies that help businesses build stronger teams while giving people a fresh start. Topics will include the return on investment for recovery-friendly and second-chance hiring, the Federal Bonding Program, Work Opportunity Tax Credits, and the valuable skills many individuals gain during their time in the justice system.
Attendees will hear from expert speakers and participate in a panel discussion featuring local businesses and organizations that are already successfully working with these populations. Panelists will share their experiences, challenges, and successes, giving employers real-world insight into how these hiring practices can benefit both businesses and the community.
To attend the annual Business Summit Event, there is a fee of $15 per person or save on admission and purchase 2 tickets for the price of 1! Ticket includes access to all sessions and a catered lunch. Interested individuals can register online at https://bit.ly/PikeBusinessSummit2026 or by contacting Cody Altman via email at [email protected] or 740-289-2371.

🚨 Community Health Centers Need Your Help — Act Now! 🚨
Federal funding for Community Health Centers (CHCs) is set to expire on January 30, 2026. If Congress does not act, millions of people could lose access to affordable, local healthcare.

Community Health Centers serve 52 million patients every year at more than 17,000 locations across the country. That includes:
👩‍⚕️ 1 in 5 rural Americans
🧑‍⚕️ 1 in 3 people living in poverty
👨‍⚕️ 1 in 5 uninsured individuals
👩‍⚕️Overall, 1 in 7 Americans relies on a CHC for care, including more than 15,000 individuals in our local communities.

CHCs provide primary care, preventive services, behavioral health, and more—regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. They are a lifeline for families, seniors, veterans, and workers in our communities.

Right now, CHC funding is only temporarily covered under a short-term government extension. Congress must pass long-term funding to protect patient access and keep health centers open.

👉 TAKE ACTION TODAY
Please contact your members of Congress and urge them to support stable funding for Community Health Centers, including:
❗️At least $5.8 billion per year for CHCs (for two years)
❗️$950 million per year for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC)
❗️$2.1 billion over five years for the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) program
