How many opportunities have you second-guessed yourself out of?

Studies show that women are less likely to apply for a position unless they feel they meet most of the requirements.

Men are far more comfortable applying—even when they don’t.

In this clip, Tammy Spencer Bey reminds us that confidence often matters just as much as credentials.

The truth is—most job descriptions are a wishlist, not a checklist.

This month, C&J Financial Foundations is proud to highlight women who are leading with purpose and creating lasting impact in their communities. This month, we recognize Tammy Spencer Bey Vice President and Community Development Market Manager for Citizens Bank in Western Pennsylvania.

Tammy Spencer Bey is the Vice President and Community Development Market Manager for Citizens Bank in Western Pennsylvania, where she leads strategy and partnerships that expand economic opportunity, strengthen neighborhoods, and advance equitable access to capital. With more than 25 years of cross‑sector experience, Tammy is known for her collaborative leadership, deep community connections, and commitment to driving measurable, long‑term impact.

In her role, Tammy oversees Citizens’ Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) initiatives across the Pittsburgh region, working with nonprofit partners, government agencies, and internal business lines to deliver high‑impact financial education, affordable housing, workforce development, and small business programs. Her work supports underserved communities through capital deployment, homeownership pathways, financial empowerment, and strategic investments that help families and businesses thrive.

Tammy Spencer Bey’s leadership is a powerful reminder that investing in people and communities creates meaningful, lasting change—something we celebrate this Women’s History Month and beyond. Look out for clips from her interview with Cynthia A Underwood in the coming days!

Ownership is powerful — but cash flow is what makes it sustainable.

This month especially, we’ve been reflecting on the role real estate plays in building wealth and legacy within our community.

Many Black property owners have built their portfolios without generational playbooks — learning through experience rather than inheritance. That often looks like:

• Self-managing longer than is financially efficient
• Reacting to maintenance and tax increases instead of planning ahead
• Measuring success by property count rather than cash flow strength

And let’s be clear — this isn’t a failure.
It reflects access gaps, not ability gaps.

We often hear: “I own property, but I still feel financially stretched.”
That feeling usually comes down to one thing: cash flow management.

Strong cash flow systems help property owners:
✔ Plan for repairs and vacancies
✔ Stabilize personal income
✔ Reduce financial stress
✔ Make confident decisions about growth

Ownership is the first step.
Financial control is what turns it into long-term stability and generational wealth.

If you’re ready to strengthen your systems and improve your cash flow visibility, we’re currently preparing the next cohort of our Landlord Training Program.

Entrepreneurs are great at budgeting money.

Fewer are intentional about budgeting their health.

Dr. Mike Silvestri explains why your health isn’t a “nice to have” — it’s the asset that determines how well you lead, decide, and sustain growth over time.

Energy, focus, clarity, and stamina don’t come from hustle alone. They come from taking care of the system that runs the business: 𝙮𝙤𝙪.

How are you investing in your health this year ❓

01/26/2026

Most entrepreneurs don’t burn out because of a bad business model. They burn out because they ignore their health.

At 16 years old, Dr. Mike Silvestri was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and told his options were lifelong medication or surgery. Instead of accepting that, he asked a question every great business owner asks: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴?

That question shaped his entire career — and it’s one many entrepreneurs don’t ask soon enough.

Your health isn’t separate from your business.
It determines your energy, focus, leadership, and longevity.

🎥 Watch the clip below to hear the moment that changed everything.

This year, we’re bringing back something very special: 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 ✨

These spotlights shine a light on the incredible skills, experience, and expertise within our network—offering valuable insights to our community.

We’re kicking things off with Mike Silvestri DC, a passionate chiropractor dedicated to helping people restore, optimize, and maintain their health.

With a background in competitive sports and a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and nutrition, Dr. Mike brings a truly holistic perspective to his work. He specialises in corrective chiropractic care, spinal rehabilitation, nutrition, and naturopathy—allowing him to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Dr. Silvestri believes in the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Rather than simply treating symptoms, he focuses on addressing root causes through functional medicine and naturopathic approaches. To date, he has successfully guided hundreds of patients toward long-term healing and lasting health improvements.

Before founding Silvestri Chiropractic & Wellness, Dr. Mike gained invaluable experience interning at a world-class chiropractic clinic, where he conducted orthopedic and neurological exams and performed X-rays for hundreds of patients. He later built on this foundation as an associate, further expanding his clinical expertise.

Dr. Mike graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and a minor in exercise science. He went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 2018.

📹 Keep an eye out for clips from James Carter's interview with Dr. Mike this month.

Before diving fully into 2026, we wanted to pause and acknowledge the incredible year that made it possible. ✨

As we officially close out 2025, we’re proud of what this year represented for C&J Financial Foundations.

🚀 Looking ahead to 2026:
Mentorship expansion, Care Program 2.0, new partnerships, smarter systems, and continued growth.

Thank you to every client, partner, and supporter who trusted us along the way.

Passion is powerful — but it’s not enough to scale your business. You need a clear, actionable plan.

The problem?
Most business plans fail not because the idea is bad, but because the plan is incomplete.

Here are 3 common reasons business plans fall short (and how to fix them):

1️⃣ No financial clarity
💡 Fix: Build a financial model that includes revenue forecasts, expense tracking, and cash flow analysis so you can make confident, informed decisions.

2️⃣ Lack of operational structure
💡 Fix: Define clear roles, responsibilities, and workflows. Structure creates stability — and stability drives growth.

3️⃣ Too generic
💡 Fix: Customise your business plan to reflect your goals, market, and value proposition. No more cookie-cutter templates.

A great business plan serves two audiences:
✅ You and your team – providing direction and accountability.
✅ Investors and partners – showcasing credibility and potential for growth.
