HARRISBURG (KDKA) -- Hundreds of thousands of older adults and those with disabilities are now able to apply for rebates of up to $1,000.

Pennsylvania's Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is now open, Gov. Josh Shapiro announced on Tuesday. The maximum standard rebate is now $1,000, up from $650 after Shapiro signed bipartisan legislature into law last year.

The income limits have been increased for the first time since 2006 to $45,000, making nearly 175,000 more Pennsylvanians eligible for the program.

TAX FACT:

The IRS cannot issue refunds for people claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) before mid-February. The law requires the IRS to hold the entire refund – not just the portion associated with the EITC or ACTC. The IRS expects most EITC and ACTC related refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or on debit cards by Feb. 27, 2024, if the taxpayer chose direct deposit and there are no other issues with the tax return.

Ridesharing Drivers and Taxes:
Ridesharing drivers are usually considered to be independent contractors, not employees. This means more tax requirements but it can result in more tax breaks, too.
Drivers must pay the self-employment tax if they're independent contractors: the full Social Security and Medicare taxes that they would otherwise share with their employers.
Ridesharing drivers must remit quarterly estimated tax payments over the course of the year because no employer is withholding and remitting taxes from their earnings.
Drivers can claim tax deductions for work-related mileage and for other business expenses they incur.
Call the tax professionals with over 20 years of experience to avoid filing your taxes incorrectly as a ride share driver. 412-918-1827
