Just when we thought we have seen it all... One of the new laws that has popped up on the Affordable Health Care Act that affects small businesses in a very major way, and I feel negative, way.
If your employer is a small employer (less than 50) and reimburses or even pays directly your health insurance premium that is not a group health care plan sponsored by the company that fits the definition of the affordable health care act, the employer is to be fined $100 a day PER EMPLOYEE!!! The IRS has given relief on this till June of this year (how generous of them), but apparently this has been in effect since the beginning of 2014... Yikes! Its hard to believe that the government will fine the tar out of a business for providing some benefit that doesn't fit their mold but if you did nothing at all for your employees (and your under 50 full time employees) your in the clear. What a world we live in.
The IRS bulletin on this is linked below. If you have a small business, time to check what you are doing. Call or Message us and we will walk through what you are doing to help make sure you are compliant to this garbage fire of a law. -Timothy Wright
