🚨 No earned income = NO tax refund 🚨

No W-2 ❌
No 1099 ❌
No self-employment income ❌
That means no refundable credits 💸🚫

You cannot claim EITC, Child Tax Credit, or Head of Household with zero earned income. That’s not how taxes work 📑

Refunds come from income, not vibes ✨🚫
If someone says they can get you a refund with no income, they’re lying or adding fraudulent income 🚩

I’ve had a lot of people asking about child tax credits this year, so I want to break it down in a simple way for anyone who doesn’t fully understand how it works.

💵 Child Tax Credit Amount (Federal)
• Up to $2,200 per qualifying child under age 17.
• This is a non-refundable credit that reduces your federal tax bill dollar for dollar.

💰 Additional (Refundable) Child Tax Credit
• If the full credit is more than the taxes you owe, you may be able to get up to $1,700 per child back as a refund (the Additional Child Tax Credit).
• To receive the refundable portion, you generally must have at least $2,500 of earned income during the year.

📊 How It Works in Practice
• If you owe $500 in federal tax and have one qualifying child with a $2,200 credit, the credit can reduce your tax bill to zero and potentially give you a refund of part of the credit (up to the refundable amount)

Everyone’s situation is different, which is why it’s important to have your taxes reviewed properly so you don’t miss credits you qualify for — or claim something incorrectly.

🆔 What Is an ITIN & Why Is It Important? 🧾

An ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is a tax processing number issued by the IRS for individuals who are required to file U.S. taxes but do not qualify for a Social Security Number.

✅ Who needs an ITIN?
• Non-U.S. residents required to file a tax return
• Undocumented individuals with U.S. income
• Dependents or spouses without a SSN
• Foreign nationals with U.S. tax obligations

💡 Benefits of an ITIN
✔️ Allows you to file a tax return legally
✔️ Helps you stay compliant with IRS rules
✔️ May allow you to claim certain tax credits (if eligible)
✔️ Creates an official IRS tax record
✔️ Can be used for banking or financial reporting (varies by institution)

❗ Important to know
• An ITIN is not a work permit
• It does not change immigration status
• It does not qualify you for Social Security benefits
• It must be renewed if not used for 3 consecutive years

💡 Itemized Deductions vs. Standard Deduction What’s the Difference? 💡

When it’s time to file your taxes, one of the biggest choices is whether to take the standard deduction or itemize your deductions. Here’s a simple breakdown to help you decide 👇

✅ Standard Deduction
This is a fixed amount the IRS allows you to deduct from your income—no receipts required.
• ✔️ Simple and fast
• ✔️ Fewer records to keep
• ✔️ Works best if you don’t have many deductible expenses

🧾 Itemized Deductions
Instead of a flat amount, you deduct actual eligible expenses, such as:
• Mortgage interest
• State & local taxes (SALT)
• Medical expenses (over the IRS threshold)
• Charitable donations

💰 If your total itemized expenses are more than the standard deduction, itemizing could lower your tax bill even more.

🔍 Which one is better?
The IRS allows you to choose whichever gives you the bigger tax benefit—and that can vary from person to person.

The “BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL” Broken Down 🧾

The IRS has rolled out new changes under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and some of it can really help working people, parents, and seniors. Let me break it down 👇

🧓🏽 1️⃣ Bigger Tax Break for Seniors:

If you’re 65 or older, you now get up to an extra $6,000 deduction — even if you don’t itemize.

✅ That means less income is taxed, so your refund may be higher or your tax bill lower.

💬 Example: If you made $40,000, the IRS may only tax $34,000 of it.

💼 2️⃣ New Deductions for Working People:

If you earn tips or overtime, you can now deduct part of that extra pay from your taxable income.

🍽️ Servers, bartenders, stylists, & warehouse workers ..this helps YOU keep more of your money.

💬 Translation: You worked hard, now you get a little break for it.

👨‍👩‍👧 3️⃣ EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit):

The EITC is the credit that helps working families and low-to-moderate income workers.

✅ Credit amounts increased for most taxpayers .. ESPECIALLY for families with kids. 🥳🥳🥳

✅ The income limits went up, so more people qualify (even if you made a little more this year).🤏🏾🤏🏾

✅ People without kids can still get a larger credit than before. 🥳🥳🥳🥳

💬 Example: A single parent with two kids could get over $7,000 back depending on income and filing status.

💡 HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD .. I Want To Talk About It!🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾

I know a lot of people feel like “if I have a roof over my head, I can file Head of Household.”

But that’s NOT always the case …. and filing under the wrong status can cause major issues if the IRS reviews your return.

✅ To truly qualify for Head of Household, you must:

1. Be unmarried or considered unmarried on the last day of the year.

2. Have paid more than half the cost of keeping up your home during the year (rent, utilities, food, etc.).

3. Have a qualifying dependent who lived with you for more than half the year.

YOU’RE NOT HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD IF:

❌ You stayed with someone else and it’s their home, not yours.

❌ You didn’t pay more than half the cost of keeping up your household (rent, lights, food, etc.).

❌ Your child (or dependent) didn’t live with you more than half the year.

❌ You’re married and lived with your spouse the entire year.

❌ You’re claiming a dependent that’s already claimed elsewhere.

👉 Example:

Let’s say you stayed with your mom this year. You helped with groceries and maybe gave her some money for the light bill …but it’s her house, her name on the lease, and she’s the one providing the home.

That means you’re not Head of Household …. she is.

DONT LET YOUR PREPARER MESS YOU UP FOR $300 EXTRA DOLLAR 🚫 Filing incorrectly can trigger audits, delays, or even repayment of credits you weren’t supposed to receive.!!

🚨 Protect Your Tax Refund with an IP PIN 🚨

An IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) is a 6-digit number issued by the IRS to help prevent tax-related identity theft. Once you have one, the IRS won’t accept your tax return without it 😵

✨ Quick Facts About IP PINs:
✔️ Helps protect you from fraudulent tax filings
✔️ Required to file your tax return once issued
✔️ Changes every year for added security
✔️ Available to any taxpayer
✔️ If you lose it, your return can be delayed

👉 Important: IP PINs are valid for one year and must be used each time you file your federal tax return

📣 New IRS Deductions & Tax Benefits You Should Know About This Year! 💰📄

The IRS and recent tax law updates have introduced several new tax breaks and deductions for tax year 2025 that many people can benefit from when filing this year. Here’s a breakdown of the most important ones:

12/25/2025

🗣️🗣️I’ve had a lot of questions this year about Social Security and whether they can claim a child and still receive the credit credits..

❌ If your only income is Social Security (SSA retirement, SSDI, or SSI):
• Social Security is NOT earned income
• The Child Tax Credit requires earned income
• ❌ You will NOT qualify for the refundable Child Tax Credit
• ❌ You will NOT qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

✅ If you have ANY earned income at all (even a small amount), such as:
• Part-time work
• Self-employment
• Wages reported on a W-2 or 1099

Then:
• ✅ You may qualify for the Additional Child Tax Credit
• ✅ You may qualify for EITC
• ✅ Filing could result in a refund

Make sure go to a professonal!!

What “$1,700 refundable” means for the Child Tax Credit (CTC) 👀

Think of the Child Tax Credit in two parts:

🧾 Part 1: Non-refundable portion

This part can only reduce taxes you owe.
• If you owe taxes, it lowers or wipes out that bill.
• If you don’t owe taxes, this part does nothing for you.

💰 Part 2: Refundable portion — up to $1,700 per child

This is the important part.

“Refundable” means you can get this money even if you owe $0 in taxes.

So:
• If you owe $0 → you can still get up to $1,700 per child as a refund
• If you owe $500 → the credit can erase the $500 and still pay you the refundable amount (up to the limit)

Real-life example

You have 1 qualifying child.
• Total CTC allowed: $2,200
• You owe $0 in federal taxes

👉 You won’t get the full $2,200
👉 But you can get up to $1,700 back in cash as part of your refund

The remaining $300 is lost because it’s not refundable.

Another example

You owe $1,200 in taxes.
• $1,200 of the credit wipes out your tax bill
• You can still get up to $500 refunded (to reach the $1,700 refundable cap)

One-sentence summary

“$1,700 refundable” means the IRS can send you up to $1,700 per child as part of your refund, even if you didn’t owe any taxes.
