Restaurant Owners 🍔🚚

Did you know that even when delivery platforms like DoorDash or Uber Eats collect sales tax, they typically do NOT remit them?

In many cases:
✔ The platform collects the tax
✔ BUT you still must report the gross sales and remit the tax

The key is making sure your POS reports, merchant deposits, and sales tax filings all reconcile correctly.

We were notified by CSX that the rail road crossings at Keytown rd. in Portland will be closed starting next Monday, July 13 at 8:00 am through Thursday, July 16th due to them working on the Rail Road. Cars WILL NOT be able to cross over.

💼 Employee or Independent Contractor? It's Not a Choice.

One of the most common questions we hear is:

"Should I issue them a 1099, or should I put them on payroll?"

The answer isn't based on what you or the worker prefer. It's based on the facts of the working relationship.

Here are a few questions the IRS considers:

✔️ Do you control how the work is done?
✔️ Do you provide the tools, equipment, or supplies?
✔️ Can the worker set their own schedule?
✔️ Can they work for other clients?
✔️ Is the relationship ongoing or for a specific project?

If you have the right to direct and control the work, the worker may be an employee, even if you agreed to issue a 1099.

Misclassifying workers can lead to payroll taxes, penalties, and interest, so it's worth getting it right from the start.

A team that laughs together works better together! 😄

We spend a lot of time helping our clients, so it's important to take a break every now and then to enjoy a good meal and plenty of laughs. This week's SRS team lunch was full of both.

We believe great service starts with a great team, and we're thankful for a group of people who work hard, support one another, and know how to have a little fun along the way.

Ignoring IRS letters usually does not make them go away.

Many IRS notices are easier to resolve when addressed quickly, and some are simply requests for clarification or missing information.

If you receive an IRS or state notice:

don’t panic,
don’t ignore it,
and don’t wait until the deadline has passed.

Bring the notice to your CPA as soon as possible so it can be reviewed properly.
