The IRS has announced an expansion of its "Fresh Start" program. In an effort to assist taxpayers that are having difficulty paying they are voiding failure-to-pay penalties for certain unemployed individuals, doubling the installment agreement thresholds, and offering grace periods and penalty relief for others that have had trouble paying taxes.

You just need your SSN, your refund amount, and your filing status and you can get an update. The information is available approximately 3 days after you E-file and 4 weeks after mailing your return. This tool is also available on mobile devices via the IRS2Go app.

Small Business Owners: Remember that qualified assets purchased and put into service in 2011 may qualify for Bonus Depreciation on your Federal Tax Return. That means you may be able to take 100% of the cost as an expense in 2011 instead of depreciating it over the life of the asset.
