If you give to charity, 2026 brought on new deduction rules that are worth the Fiduciary look 👀

What happened: the U.S. stock market has notched all-time highs, making this agreat year to consider using appreciated stocks and mutual funds to fund charitable giving...

Here’s where it matters to you:

✅ Itemizers can now deduct gifts only above 0.5% of their AGI.

✅ For taxpayers in the 37% bracket, the value of the deduction is capped at 35%.

✅ Non-itemizers can deduct up to $1,000 (single) and $2,000 (married filing jointly).

✅ Appreciated stock can stil be given without triggering capital gains tax on the gain.

Here’s how you can be strategic: A donor-advised fund ("DAF") lets you combine those pieces by contributing in a high-income or high-tax year. You can take the deduction now and recommend grants to the charities you care about over time.

At YDF WEALTH, we believe that generosity should be given from legacy, not be rushed by current headlines. That’s why we know the codes and help you plan strategically.

Think of it like this: you’re in control but have a fiduciary in your corner giving you tax-smart financial planning advice backed by knowledge and experience.

❓The Question: How much can a stranger find out about you, even if every social account is set to private?

🧠 The Answer: More than you think.

Dr. Lisa Strohman explains how “private” only goes so far and if one friend of a friend has a public account, that can be enough of an opening. Add a company announcement, a news article, or a school event photo, and AI can piece together where someone lives, where their kids go to school, and more, in seconds.

Don Codling adds the part that should make every leader pause: there is no delete key on the internet. What is out there stays out there.

For high-net-worth individuals, executives, and business owners, your digital footprint is part of your security strategy.

In support of National Estate Planning Awareness Month, we wanted to share a little excerpt from a podcast Vance Barse, CPWA®, AIF® hosted alongside Adam Moskowitz, Esq.

"A $1 million or larger estate needs more than a basic will. At a minimum, you need a revocable living trust, updated beneficiary designations, medical directives, powers of attorney, and a coordinated team made up of a fiduciary financial advisor, a CPA, and an estate planning attorney. If you own a business, real estate, or live in a state with its own estate tax, you may also need advanced strategies such as an irrevocable life insurance trust (ILIT) or gifting trusts."

For high-net-worth families, the most important question you should be asked is, “do you have your team in place?”

Most people think it’s “what investments are you in?” or “does your will include your children?” but when you get to a certain level of net-worth, you outgrow your financial advisor and need a bigger plan in place to protect your assets. A true wealth plan has an entire team behind it to coordinate the tax-smart strategies to keep as much money in your estate without getting eaten up by taxes.
