Many families finance a college education with help from student loans and other types of financial aid such as grants and work-study, private loans, current income, gifts from grandparents, and other creative cost-cutting measures. But savings are the cornerstone of any successful college financing plan.

The more you save now, the better off you'll be later. Start with whatever amount you can afford, and add to it over the years with raises, tax refunds, unexpected windfalls, and the like. If you invest regularly over time, you may be surprised at how much you can accumulate in your child's college fund.

With the wide variety of stocks in the market, figuring out which ones you want to invest in can be a challenging task. There are usually two different ways you can go when it comes to choosing stocks that may be worth investing in, one being growth stocks.

Growth investors prefer companies that are growing quickly and are less concerned with undervalued companies than with finding companies and industries that have the greatest potential for appreciation in share price. A challenge for growth investors, however, is to avoid overpaying for a stock in anticipation of earnings that eventually prove disappointing.

Wishing you had better control over how you spend your health-care dollars? If so, you may be interested in an alternative to traditional health insurance called a health savings account (HSA).

An HSA is a tax-advantaged account that’s paired with a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). HSA has several valuable tax benefits such as:

- You may be able to make pretax contributions via payroll deduction through your employer, reducing your current income tax

- If you make contributions on your own using after-tax dollars, they’re deductible from your federal income tax (and perhaps from your stat income tax) whether you itemize or not. You can also deduct contributions made on your behalf by family members

- Contributions to your HSA and any interest or earnings, grow tax deferred.

- Contributions and any earnings you withdraw will be tax free if they’re used to pay qualified medical expenses.

They believe that eventually the share price will rise to reflect what he or she perceives as the stock's fair value. Value investors consider a company’s prospects but are equally focused on whether it’s a good buy.
