For Social Security or Railroad Retirement beneficiaries who did not file a federal income tax return for 2018 or 2019, the IRS will use the information provided to the Social Security Administration on Form SSA-1099, Social Security Benefits Statement.

The IRS announced that Social Security and Railroad Retirement benefit recipients will not have to file a tax return to receive the $1,200 stimulus payment provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.
