We are shutting down to address some IT issues and complete the conversion to our new firm name, Beyond Compliance Tax & Advisory.
During this time, we will not have access to phone, email and most client portal functions. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience. It's not how we wanted to start the New Year, either!
We will reopen on Monday, January 5 at 8:30am.

The IRS doesn't care how you keep your records as long as they are complete and accurate. But you should. Isn't it time to get more out of your bookkeeping than just a tax return?

Does your credit card company offer virtual cards for online transactions?
A virtual card can be a great tool for protecting your account, and in some cases, you can set a separate limit on the virtual card to prevent overcharges and misuse.
That's working out well for me this morning - Intuit QuickBooks billed me an extra $60 over what I expected and after 45 minutes on chat CANNOT TELL ME WHY. I have been told that I have to pay the invoice before I can SEE the invoice. (If you know me well, you understand that I was SO TRIGGERED.)
Yes, the world's largest provider of small business accounting software cannot provide a breakdown of the amount they are attempting to bill me.
There are so many options out there that are better (and less expensive) than QuickBooks Online. Interested in learning more? Happy to lay out some options for you -- after the extension deadline on 10/15! :-) Call 571-707-4829 to set up a time for a call.

UPDATE: PayPal contacted me last night and this morning, made a PORTION of the funds available; HOWEVER, I was also informed that any revenue over $500/month would be subject to holds of up to 21 days.
That's insane, right? It's not just me who thinks this is NUTS?
Dear PayPal:
I have been through your "tell us more about your business" workflow more than half a dozen times, including the inferior technology used to capture my face and my driver's license to verify my identity.
I have provided all the documentation about the services for which I collected fees and explained both transactions - one a test transaction, one a consulting fee.
Neither of the people who paid me have disputed the charges in any way.
Yet you informed me on October 1 that you were closing my PayPal account "permanently" and impounding the money paid to me for up to 180 days.
When I called to complain, the smarmy, disrespectful "customer service" agent said he filed an appeal on my behalf and I would have a response within 3 business days.
October 3, 4 and 6 were the three business days. It's now the 4th business day and I have no response. Infuriatingly, when I attempted to log into my account to see if there was a response posted there, I was asked to go through your ridiculous verification process AGAIN. (Enter business name, monthly revenue, address, then capture my face on camera for facial recognition, then capture both front and back of my driver's license - which should be easy, but there is no way to focus the camera and choose when to capture the image, so it's just a crap shoot how many times you have to do it.)
At this point, I feel that you have as good as stolen money from me.
To all my clients, friends and those who simply follow me for accounting and tax tips, take this one to the bank: Stay away from PayPal.

Too many people feel ashamed about tax problems and try to hide from them. But hereβs the truth: tax issues can happen to anyone. I know firsthand β Iβve had a tax lien placed on property I own.
Iβve also seen:
β A woman who delayed marriage for years to protect her assets from his massive tax debt
β Hard-working business owners with unfiled tax returns that racked up backbreaking penalties
β Self-employed sales reps who relied on overly aggressive tax preparers β and got caught
β Taxpayers like me who lost income when they stepped in to help family through a crisis
These stories arenβt rare β theyβre real life. And the πππππ thing you can do is IGNORE IT.

I help individuals and small businesses use and understand tax strategies to pay the least tax legally possible. I dig for deductions and research possibilities like every return was my own, and offer suggestions for minimizing your tax liability in the year ahead.
I help my business clients understand that the end game of good accounting is more than just a tax return. Well designed, current accounting practices provide decision-ready financial information so you know whether itβs time to accept a new project, hire a new employee, or open a new location.
Too many accountants are too busy building empires to worry about your business. They disregard your potential and decline your business if your monthly contract wonβt be in the thousands. At the same time, they want to automate everything so they can scale their businesses and grow rich -- and guess what happens to personal service?
While other accountants are busy building empires, Iβm busy building relationships.
I am well-rounded, down to earth, straightforward, pragmatic, and ethical. I believe that accounting services should be accessible, affordable, and valuable. The current trend in the accounting profession is to offer standardized monthly package deals that use (and overuse) technology to maximize their profits, not yours. But I know that one size does not fit all. I believe that the best accounting services are a combination of people and processes enabled by the right technology, and the people always come first.
