As the tax season comes on the horizon we remind taxpayers that the IRS will not contact them by telephone. We have received numerous calls into our office regarding the IRS threatening to file lawsuits and seize assets. Reminder that these are SCAMS. The IRS will never contact you by telephone asking for personal information, it will always be in writing. The IRS doesn't initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. This includes requests for PIN numbers, passwords or similar access information for credit cards, banks or other financial accounts.
