IR-2023-112, June 8, 2023 ― The Internal Revenue Service today encouraged nearly 1.5 million people across the nation to submit a tax return to claim their refunds for tax year 2019 by the July 17, 2023, deadline.

Interesting Fact...The IRS has received 199 MILLION phone calls during the first half of the year. That is nearly five (5) times the normal call volume!!! Here's an update on the current status of IRS operations. TL:DR - They acknowledge that they are behind but are making progress on getting caught up :)
