🥶The Freezer Abyss 🥶

Food costs have gone up and many people admit they overspend on food. Thank you Double Whammy for making an appearance.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve put leftovers into the freezer with good intentions to eat it later. A year goes by, I’d pick something out, look at it, examine it carefully, turn it all around, and finally say “what the heck was THIS?” and toss it in the trash. Labels didn’t help because the pen ink was no longer visible. The big loud THUD it made as it hit the bottom of the trash can was deflating. I was supposed to save money, by golly!

I got one of those magnetic memo pads for the refrigerator. I write down what exactly I have in my freezer and as I eat it up, I cross it off. A whiteboard works too. Visibility creates clarity, and helped me use the leftovers before spoiling.

This is very effective right before grocery shopping so you can plan your grocery list. Try this and let me know how it works for you in the comments.

Your credit card rewards might get swallowed like a small sailboat caught in a storm. ⚓⛈️

I walked into a restaurant last week and saw a 3% card processing fee notice at the register. Then my water utility sent an email with the same thing, starting Sept 1.

More and more businesses are passing credit (and sometimes debit) processing fees onto customers. And here's the catch: that 3% fee will often wipe out your rewards entirely. Most credit cards only earn 1-2% back.

It's worth paying attention to:
⚓ Which businesses charge a credit or debit card processing fee.
⚓ Whether your rewards actually outweigh the added cost.
⚓ If paying by ACH, check, or cash could save you money in certain situations

Are you seeing more card fees pop up where you shop? 👇

Chrissy (not her real name) downloaded the Match dating app on a Thursday night.
She was divorced, in her early 40s, and wanted to find love again. She picked the cute beach photo and wrote something funny about her coffee addiction.
“I can’t do this.”
Fear took hold and she closed the app without hitting Publish.

Not because she wasn't ready to meet someone.
She wasn't ready for someone to meet her finances.
“They are going to walk away as soon as they find out how much debt I have.”

Here's what I told Chrissy during our intro call: There's a big difference between having debt and actively working on debt. ✨ Getting your finances together isn't about being perfect before you meet someone. It's about dropping that anchor and figuring out where you are now, and where you want to go, and WHY.

We got to work. She listed out her debts (which in itself brings out a wave of emotion for many folks). I asked questions about what she wanted to do once she found the love of her life. We prioritized her expenses and talked through ways to maximize every dollar coming into the home. After running through a few debt payoff options, I asked what option was speaking to her the loudest. She said without hesitation “paying off THIS card” (the one holding most of the emotional weight). It may not have made the most mathematical sense, but this was HER journey. I told her “Don’t question yourself….go for it.”

She saw the needle move after a few months. The interest she was being charged went down, but her confidence went up. So did the dating profile.

💜 If your finances are the reason you've been putting love on hold, you don't have to figure it out alone. Take action and schedule a free intro call with me (Julie) by texting 910-718-3133. If nothing else, I want to be an encouraging voice.

Should you close a credit card account once you've paid it off? In some cases, this can hurt you. Watch and find out why.

She came to me at 60, freshly divorced, and quietly terrified.

For decades, her ex-husband handled the finances. She'd built a successful business. Managing her personal money, however, was completely uncharted territory.

She didn't know what she needed to live. She didn't know how much to pay herself. Since her business revenue fluctuated, every month felt like a guessing game.

She wasn't starting from nothing, though. She had affordable rent, no car payment, little debt, and grown kids. More going for her than she realized.

We shined a light on her core expenses, figured out exactly what she needed to draw from her business each month, and built a visual roadmap she could actually relate to. "Now you're talking my language," she said.

High profit month? Here's the move. Slow month? Here's the move. No more guessing. No more anxiety. Just clarity. That's what a personal financial coach does.

A couple months ago, I accidentally knocked a leaf off one of my favorite succulent plants. It was gifted to me and I was crushed. I asked one of my gardening-loving friends and she told me to lay it on top of soil.

For weeks...nothing. I mean, ZIP.

But then one day, I looked a little closer.
New growth!
Life had been growing the whole time. I just couldn't see it yet.

Our financial habits work the same way.
✔️ Setting a specific day and time each week to review your credit card and bank transactions (15 mins).
✔️ Around the 25th of each month, spend 60 minutes planning what your next month's income and expenses will look like.
✔️ Transferring a little money into savings each payday.
✔️ Saying "not today" to one unnecessary purchase.

None of those habits feel life-changing in the moment. But beneath the surface, you're building awareness, confidence, and consistency.

Keep showing up.
Growth is often happening beneath the surface before you ever see it. 🌱⚓

What small financial habit has made the biggest difference for you? Tell me in the comments.

High school. College. Job. Marriage. House. Kids. Retire.

That's the script we were handed.
But what if your life took a different path?

Maybe you're divorced. Maybe you never married. Maybe you don't have children. Maybe your career changed, your health changed, or your priorities changed.

The question isn't whether your life looks like everyone else's. The question is: Does it look like yours?

If you've been pushing aside that dream because you don't know if you can afford it... start there.
Whether it's changing careers, starting a business, traveling, buying a home on your own, working less, or finally putting yourself first, the dream isn't enough. It needs a financial plan.

That's where I come in.

As your personal financial coach and thinking partner, I'll help you build the roadmap, the numbers, and the confidence to move from "I wish" to "I'm doing it."

You get one life. Make sure you're building your version of it.

📩 I'd love to hear what you want.
Email me at [email protected] and finish this sentence:
"If money weren't holding me back, I would..."

If sharing your dream is the only thing that comes from this post, I'd still love to cheer you on and support you.
