If you disagree with your property value assessment, you may file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board (VAB). The deadline to file a VAB petition is September 11. Filing a petition preserves your right to a hearing and gives you additional time to work with our office to resolve your concerns.

The “Save Our Homes” (SOH) amendment prevents homestead property owners from being taxed out of their homes during a period when home sale prices are rapidly increasing. This is accomplished by limiting the amount your assessed value can increase.

In the example below your neighbor has enjoyed the benefit of the assessed value cap due to their length of ownership, whereas, you just purchased your home and have yet to create any Save Our Homes benefit. Once you are approved for your homestead exemption, your assessed value will also be capped in future years.
