Many don't know this:
As the October 15th deadline approaches, many taxpayers begin to feel anxious about completing their returns on time. However, it’s important to understand that this deadline primarily affects those who owe taxes.
If you are expecting a refund, there is no penalty for filing after October 15th. The IRS only imposes penalties when taxes are owed and not paid by the due date. You can still file your return after the deadline and claim your refund — just be sure to do so within three years of the original due date to remain eligible.
