Staying informed. Planning ahead. Supporting your journey. 💙

For families caring for a loved one with special needs, changes in benefits and services can raise new questions. Our November edition of Planning With Purpose covers three developments worth knowing about:

1️⃣ Received a Medicaid HCBS notice? Federal oversight of home and community-based services is loosening, which gives states more room to change services. Learn what steps you can take if a notice arrives.
2️⃣ A more portable approach to disability benefits. A proposed system would let benefits follow the individual, not the state. That could mean moving, working, marrying, or building modest savings without automatically losing critical support.
3️⃣ New airline accessibility rules. Airline workers who assist passengers with wheelchairs and scooters had to complete hands-on training by June 17, 2026. Some protections are still on pause while the DOT reviews the rules. Here’s what’s in effect and what’s not.

📚 New Blog Alert: Planning With Purpose - Volume 3

Staying informed is one of the most important steps special needs families can take when planning for the future. In the latest edition of Planning With Purpose: Financial Guidance for Special Needs Families, were covering:

✅ Applying for SSDI vs. SSI – Understanding eligibility requirements, application tips, required documentation, and what happens if a claim is denied.
✅ 14 New Conditions Added to the SSA Compassionate Allowances List – Learn which diagnoses may qualify for expedited disability claim processing and what this could mean for your family.
✅ Could a Trump Account Impact SSI Benefits? – A look at how these accounts may affect SSI eligibility at age 18 and the planning opportunities involving ABLE accounts that families should understand.

Our goal is to provide timely information, practical guidance, and trusted resources to help families make informed decisions and plan with confidence.

Countless questions. One very important conversation. 💙

This past Saturday, Michael Beloff and I were honored to be breakout speakers at the 13th Annual Adult Autism Conference hosted by the Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area. Autism Society SF Bay Area

The conference brought together families, caregivers, professionals, and advocates for a day focused on what comes next — from housing and employment to public benefits, financial planning, and estate planning.

Michael and I had the opportunity to share information about government benefits and how families can connect those benefits to a bigger plan for their loved one’s future. We also hosted a resource booth and connected with more than 60 families looking for guidance and information!

That number says a lot. Behind every conversation is a family trying to make sense of a complicated system, protect their loved one’s future, and answer the very real question: What happens when I can no longer be the one making sure everything is taken care of?

Government benefits, financial planning, and estate planning shouldn’t live in separate silos. When coordinated thoughtfully, they can help families protect access to important benefits while building a more secure financial future for their loved one.

And families shouldn’t have to figure all of this out alone.

This is why education, accessible resources, and collaboration between professionals matter so much. Planning for the future isn’t just about the money. It’s about creating more security, more options, and greater peace of mind for the people we love.

A huge thank-you to the Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area for bringing this community together and creating space for these important conversations. I left feeling grateful for every family who stopped by, asked questions, and trusted us with a little piece of their story.

Let’s keep making these conversations happen. 💙

Yesterday we got our puzzle on at the The Autism Society of Minnesota Annual Puzzle Contest at Mall of America! 🧩💙

It was a whole lot of fun for a really important cause—and the best part? This wasn’t just a fundraiser. It brought autism awareness right into the middle of the mall, where thousands of people could see, learn, and hopefully leave a little more aware than when they walked in.

Raise money. Raise awareness. Build community. Share the work we do Pettinelli Financial Partners.
Not a bad day at the mall. 😉🧩
