How to arrive for your tax appointment. Or any appointment really.
BE PREPARED. Have everything you need with you.
Everything.
Did you work overtime? Make sure to have that with you. I sent 3 notices about overtime and needing that information. So make sure to have the figures, numbers, breakdown, or easy access to this information.
Bring all your income documents. ALL of them. Yes. Even the w2 from the business you only worked at for like one day. It counts.
Have all your business or side hustle things added up. By category. Separated out. Yes. It matters. I will charge you $150/hour (billed on the 1/4 hour) to tabulate expenses. On top of your return fee. If it takes 5 minutes. That is $37.50 added to the prep fee. You can do this free before you get here.
SHOW UP ON TIME. You made the appointment. You get reminders. Be. On. Time. If you are late, that could make me late for my next appointment and snowballs until I have a break to make up that time.
CANCELLATION—cancel or reschedule further out than 24 hours. Because (see note above) when you make the appointment and cancel last second, no one gets that appointment and you will need to reschedule one which takes a second appointment off the books. Yes. Things happen. Try to be prepared before you schedule the appointment, then you won’t have to cancel when you’re not ready. If you need to cancel, see the one above; let me know. Do not no show. This has been blocked out for you, and when you no call no show, that makes someone else miss the appointment and then another one will need to be made later. Make sure you are ready for the appointment before you schedule it. Yes. Things happen. Reschedule your appt as soon as you know you’re not going to make it. There are limited appointments available due to tax season only lasting 79 days. So each one counts.
