So I'm turning 35 at the end of the month...⁣

Funny thing is, I feel pressure - but it's tempered. It's more inner fuel and gratification of effort off the scenes than suffocation or disappointment. It’s been a busy year thus far of inner framework rebuilding & generally, education building as I build up to launch some new things (yay, I have finished a few guides & working towards video to go along) & you know.. life just throwing it’s curveballs! All is well, but it means I’m quiet around here! ⁣

I haven’t had much time or desire to get weekday hair fancy being it’s winter and I’m busy with work keeping me indoors more. Plus… sweaters, lots of sweaters. Lots of tangles. Lots of ponies. That being said, the days I wash my hair I’m still doing a good day one blow dry. Always. It saves me time and just makes me feel better. I adjust my wardrobe accordingly, and it keeps my hair going longer, no matter how I style it. ⁣

Kristen is a perfect example of why I structure appointments in a more modern, individual service booking.⁣

New appointments are often lengthier because of newness to each other & consultation time. I always recommended selecting a lengthier service option when booking, but instead of doing a heavier dimensional painting just to make more money, I decided after our consult that another direction was best to start.⁣
⁣

The most common dry shampoo mistakes come from not maximizing the potential in that can! ⁣

👍 Lightly spritzing fresh hair increases texture, adds volume, and gives a little grip!⁣
⁣
👍 Massaging scalp & brushing your hair spreads product. Grab a blowdryer and do a dry refresh for extra power.⁣
⁣
👍 Smaller Sections! Don't try and spray all over in a big circle - save that for hairspray.⁣

🛑 Don't use too much dry shampoo⁣

I could have drowned. I could have wept forever & rode on someone else’s coat tails to make my way back. But I didn’t. I choose the hard work (therapy, constant PT, biz classes, working my tail off behind the scenes few people ever realize or see) without anyone asking me or telling I needed to do it. I keep showing up in all of the ways, for myself.⁣

This journey over the last couple years of nearly losing everything I worked so hard for (my home, business, physical functional body, and for awhile: my voice, confidence, ability to make sense of the world bc ) was a lot. I wish it on no one.⁣
⁣
TBH, it almost killed me. There were days I was in so much physical & emotional pain I wanted to walk into the ocean & just stand there until a riptide took me away from the pain of it all. ⁣
⁣
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to properly put into words the depths of how heart breakingly painful things were. Not in a way that could make you actually feel, in your bones, the lowest of low levels of grief, despair, sadness, and hopelessness that rocked through me. ⁣
⁣
But dang, looking at things today. I couldn’t be more proud. Yea, I’ve stumbled, flawed, had moments in this rebuild where I tried too hard bc I just needed my life, voice, support & some happiness back. The things that made me feel alive, thrive & flourish. Every AM, I’m out of bed before most of the world (except my early hospital crew, we all up together ❤️) working on my ish. ⁣

No one was going to give it to me, except me. I choose to dig into the hard work & it has been worth it. Not done yet, but where I am now vs 6 months ago (afraid, confused, crumbling and clawing to just keep going) feel years apart. ⁣
⁣
I don’t have back everything lost, but that wasn’t the goal. The goal: a new, better, balanced Lex/Salve/life/future - for us all ❤️ ⁣

What keeps blonde & colored hair healthy? Good at home routine. Before & between your appointments. ⁣

What we do in the salon has a major effect on the health and shine of your hair, but how you care for your locks at home is the *MOST* important. ⁣
⁣
💇‍♀️ Visit prep: Come in with FRESHLY washed clean hair; we need the chemicals to effectively pe*****te, which can’t happen over oil & product build up (dry shampoo, I see you).⁣

My role: I did multiple rounds of (before bleach application, before toning, and pre-deep conditioning). K18 goes deep to repair the hair, while Nourishing Pak mask added some much needed moisture and extra protein to these thirsty summer strands. ⁣

K18 is the gold star, but I encourage all my clients to make sure they are also doing a potent moisture mask ever 1-2 weeks, especially as the seasons change and your hair gets thristier. I have a few on hand and can direct you to what’s right for your needs. Nothing can compete with a good cut (sometimes those ends gotta go), but regular professional care at home keeps your hair color investment protected. ⁣

K18 peptide prep is a new shampoo I’m encouraging my blondes to swap out at home. They also released an incredible Detox shampoo that could be used 2-4x per month, as well as right before you come in for your color⁣

💜 Purple toning shampoos are lovely, but too much isn’t good - and with the seasons changing it’s time ditch the regular violet in lieu of something more reparative. You’ll find the color and structure of your hair lasts muchhh longer!⁣

Stress has a huge impact on the health of our bodies & thus hair, but sometimes there’s more to it. Medications can affect everything from your mood to the way your hair color processes - affecting what’s achievable. So can mineral and metal build up on the hair due to poor water quality, medicated shampoos & lack of proper weekly clarifying. ⁣

Always, always, 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 - come to your color appointment with freshly clean hair. Sing it from the rooftops because it will 100% impact the speed and result of your appointment. Even chemicals can meet their match when it comes to product build up (looking at my dry shampoo queen👸) and built up oil. ⁣

Fainting good kinda gorgeous; the consult, end result & this soul in the chair⁣

Took this one from a pretty basic, bland, no dimensions blonde to a rooted, lived in but bright stunner ☀️ The consult makes or breaks the outcome, on the stylist end and to the client. Allows us to hear each other (and really listen) while getting an understanding of comfort levels and what your eye is drawn too. Taylor’s stylist moved away & she has been struggling to find a good fit ever since; photos we key in guiding me to know how far to push. Had I operated on just what she walked in with, the look would have been alllll wrongggg. But photos from her last colorist (killer job, props), photos of my own blondes she liked, and a photo of something eye catching but drastically different than what she walked in with made all the difference in the end result. Zero heat used, but still got that lift baby. You don’t need to bake the hair to get light, you just been to really tune in on what’s going on while it’s happening and know where to adjust technique for different hair. Her’s was definitely is slow on the lift (which she told me herself. And I actually listened) but the collaboration on the consult leas the path for where we needed to go. Totally wish we’d taken a before, but the after still speaks for itself.⁣

I had no idea this little thing existed down the road from , but was alerted to it by one of the local Reston/Herndon community groups. We had some (new) snacks, puzzles & other items that needed the love of a new child: mostly, Charlie’s childhood Tigger from our Dad. ⁣
⁣
Miss you Big Man, but Char & I both agreed it was time for him to find a family that would love him with an equally big heart like you had. My Mom didn’t have the heart to just throw him out (I did think about it a few times, I can be ruthless when it comes to old clutter) but never seemed right. Managed to find Eeyore a new family (in the family) a couple years ago, but Tigger just kept just moving from various room to room. He was in great condition so I even tried give him to some friends with kids, but no one wanted “another toy” in their house… sooo this just felt right when I saw it!⁣
⁣
Hopefully he goes home to a new family and gets even more hugs than he got from us, and helps someone else sleep feeling loved at night. ⁣
⁣
Happy Wednesday friends, appreciate the big ole world of the good ones that’s still out there. Lucky to have grown up in such a good community, and glad to see peoples big hearts are still growing. ⁣

Truly, my Day 1 Muse; here. Idk even know how long I’ve been doing Mere’s hair, but when I look at the old photos I’m blown away by where we were Vs where my work is now. Makes me appreciate how much it took to go back to the basics, flip everything it thought as bebe colorist on its head, and hone in on precision & continued learning, and trusting that I didn’t have to copy anyone else’s hairstyle methods. My work style is truly a product of all the ones that taught me, blended with my own “create art your way, as long as you’re approaching it logically” personality. Continuously educating yourself rarely fails - but sometimes you fully appreciate it until you’re looking in another light, on another day, when the dust has settled✨ We’re forever a work in progress, but the work is also speaking for itself. That’s a thing to be proud of - helps when it shine just right.⁣

For me, that kinda of day includes a multitude of pieces; from working on my being, the business, and m still holding the balance of being presence. Because when we are present to the journey, joys pain & pressure points of what’s happening to everything & everyone around us, I can pause to see the correlation. I can stop and take in the smaller, somewhat inconspicuous beautiful moments of this shared life that connect us all. ⁣
⁣
Be it nature, or a soulful conversation with clients & old friends. I learn the most in those days; to slow down, to speed up, to hit pause, to listen & to tune into the energy around me and who needs a little extra “me” that day. Sometimes it’s myself, sometimes it’s the ones I love. ⁣
⁣
The reciprocity of nature: what comes up always comes down, and repeats again as the world spins around us. ⁣
⁣

We didn’t get a hair photo, but we got 5 hours of together time. We’ve known each other nearly a decade now, and few people feel like home and love and reciprocal energy the way she does. We may be decades apart, but we speak the same soul language. Lucky to have you in my life; as more than just a client - but as a friend and guiding light in dark. Thank you for seeing me through all challenging times, I hope (& believe) it’s a two way street. ⁣

✨To keep things light & bright, but also strong & healthy, I prep & finish my formulations with before reaching for the bleach. ⁣

Lara is in a wedding party in about a month, so she went her home with Light Blonde powder (spray version for wide, fast coverage) to keep any dark roots at bay on dress up day 💃 ⁣

Blondes aren’t just for summer ☀️⁣
⁣
⁣As the seasons change I hear a lot of general internet babble about “going dark”, mostly I think, bc people want change and only look at change as a 180 degree shift. But that’s not the case, and often if you’re truly a year round blonde (or find yourself going back to blonde in your mind frequently) going fully dark isn’t the answer. There’s a *lot* of maintenance when it comes to reintroducing artificial pigment to the hair shaft, especially when the change ratio is so drastic. ⁣
⁣
Browns will dull quickly on very processed hair, but adding depth through paneling or tone shifting is a great way to get the “change” fix needed, while not putting you back in the chair 4 weeks later for another round of dark color, as the intense depth inevitably hollows & mutes out. And when that happens, you often sense your mind unhappy and looking for the pop of light the blonde gave you. Sometimes, going fully dark is the answer - but often it’s not. ⁣
⁣
How do you know? The power of a good color consultation: communication, honesty & education. Is your stylist hearing you? Are you heading them? Are we understanding each other? More education, more clarity, less “meh” vibes later.⁣
