If you filed for an extension, your deadline to submit your tax return is fast approaching. As you prepare to file, it’s important to choose your tax preparer wisely and know what to expect.
Things to consider when choosing a preparer:
✔️ Are they available year-round for questions?
✔️ Do they have proper credentials (CPA, etc.)?
✔️ Check their standing with the IRS, BBB, and State Board of Accountancy.
✔️ Ask about fees – avoid anyone who charges based on your refund amount or wants to deposit your refund into their account.
✔️ Make sure they use IRS e-file for faster and safer processing.
Working with a tax preparer:
✅ They should ask for your records and receipts—not just pay stubs.
✅ Always review your return before signing.
✅ Refunds should go to your account—not the preparer’s.
✅ Never sign a blank or incomplete return.
✅ Make sure your preparer signs the return and includes their PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number).
🚨 If something feels off, trust your instincts. Report any misconduct directly to the IRS.
