Fun fact: I named my business “3 Lakes Bookkeeping” after the Three Lakes Waterfowl Production Area across from our home. Some state and federally protected land with 3 small lakes and hiking tails. It is a hidden gem of New Richmond, WI.

It’s a place where my family spends time hiking, watching eagles, turtles, sandhill cranes, loons, pheasant, and other wildlife. It’s where we can find balance… something I also try to bring to my clients’ finances.

It’s been about a little over a week since our community lost one of the kindest and most optimistic guys I knew.

I had the privilege of getting to know Jake over the past couple of years through Journey Church and the St. Croix Valley Business Innovation Center where I had a cube next to him for a while. Every interaction I had with was positive.

He was the kind of person who invested in people. While working a full-time job and building his bacon business, he and his wife still faithfully served the kids at our church every Wednesday for the past decade. He also made it a priority to be home for dinner with his family, even if that meant going back to the office afterward.

When I was first starting my business, he was one of the people who encouraged me to believe in the value of what I had to offer. After I helped him with some bookkeeping questions, he insisted on thanking me with a package of his amazing bacon.

This past week has reminded me that the greatest legacy we leave isn’t simply the work we accomplish. It’s the way we make people feel, the encouragement we give, the faith we live out, and the love we show our families and communities.

I’m thankful I had the chance to know him, even if only for a small part of his story.

Please continue to keep his wife, children, family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched in your prayers. Last month I had the opportunity to attend my first Chamber golf outing as a hole sponsor. I was definitely thankful it happened during a cool spell instead of this week’s heat wave!

It turned into beautiful weather and was so fun being out on the course with my husband, Jonathan, while getting to meet so many local business owners and community members.

Thankfully it was a best ball scramble because this was probably only my 5th time golfing in the last decade. 😆

And thanks to Natalie with Threadworks 41 for getting me a hat so last minute for the event, they are amazing!!

I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!
