The new IRS Commissioner announced that the 2026 tax filing season will open around Presidents’ Day. Many are wondering how this may affect taxpayers and refunds.

As long as the PATH Act isn’t pushed back, credit-based returns (EIC, Child Tax Credit) should process as usual with no delays. Non-credit returns may see a slight delay, since those are typically filed in late January.

My advice: treat tax season as normal. Once you have all your documents, send them to your tax professional early to avoid backlogs. Tax season is already busy—don’t overcomplicate it.
