Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how almost everything is done, including how fraud is committed. For example, a scammer might use AI to generate “deepfake” voices or “spoof” caller ID information to impersonate IRS agents. AI also makes it easier for perpetrators to establish robocall networks. (The IRS always stresses that it will contact taxpayers via U.S. mail about any tax issues. It won’t leave urgent voice messages or threaten arrest.) Fraud aside, the IRS warns against relying on AI-generated responses to complex tax questions. Be sure to verify AI answers by reviewing IRS instructions and crunching any numbers yourself. Better yet, call us at (951) 289-9135 for assistance.

Practical operational improvements can make a real difference. Consider automating repetitive tasks, clarifying approval workflows, cross-training staff to ease bottlenecks and leveraging external resources during peak times. When your F&A team has the right structure and support, they’re more productive, accurate and engaged. Trying to catch up? Employees age 50 and older are allowed to make extra, “catch-up” contributions to their 401(k) and similar plans. In 2026, you can generally contribute an additional $8,000, for an annual maximum of $32,500. And, if you turn age 60, 61, 62 or 63 this year, you can contribute up to $35,750! However, there’s a catch. Recent tax law changes require certain high earners to invest catch-up contributions in a post-tax Roth account, such as a Roth 401(k). This may require additional planning. Call us at (951) 289-9135 to discuss how to reach your retirement savings goals.

A temporary federal income tax deduction for interest on qualifying auto loans for 2025 through 2028 was created by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The write-off, available even if you don’t itemize, is capped at $10,000 per tax return, subject to income-based phaseouts. It applies only to interest on first-lien loans to buy U.S.-assembled passenger vehicles for personal use. Leased, used and fleet vehicles are excluded. The IRS recently issued proposed regulations that clarify how the deduction works. For example, they address the “personal use” requirement. Contact us for details at (951) 289-9135.

Fringe benefits offer multiple business advantages. They can boost morale, attract and retain top talent, and qualify for potential tax breaks. That’s why it’s smart to review which ones you sponsor and what you may be missing. Of course, you don’t want to spend time and resources sponsoring benefits your employees don’t value. And you must follow specific rules and documentation requirements to be eligible for tax-advantaged treatment. Contact us at (951) 289-9135 for help choosing the right fringe benefits for your business and managing the tax impact.

Did you know you can amend your tax return if you need to revise information after you filed it? Amended returns let taxpayers fix errors or omissions — such as income, deductions, credits or filing status — and make certain late elections. They can also be used to address tax law changes, claim losses and credit carrybacks, and more. You can e-file up to three amended returns per tax year. Usually, you have up to three years from the original filing deadline or two years from when you paid the tax, whichever is later, to claim a refund. But the rules can be complex. Contact us at (951) 289-9135 for guidance.

Are you behind on federal tax payments or worried about defaulting on an IRS installment agreement? You might have more options than you realize. If your finances have changed, the IRS may let you adjust your payment plan to lower monthly payments or a new schedule. If your agreement is terminated, you can request reinstatement. You can also consider an offer in compromise, which may allow you to settle for less than you owe. If you’re facing serious financial trouble and can provide evidence of undue hardship, the IRS sometimes allows up to six months to pay. It helps to act early. Call us at (951) 289-9135 with questions.
