The staff and board at Genesee Co-op love riding trains--one of the most efficient modes of transportation. When heading to Albany and New York City for events, rail is our preferred way to travel. Trains are comfortable, safe, and often the most affordable.

The Reverend Doctor Gawain de Leeuw grew up in Rochester and had his first bank account at Genesee Co-op. Now a priest in the Episcopal Diocese of New York, Father Gawain writes and thinks about economic issues from a Christian perspective. He is the author of the book "The Body of Christ in a Market Economy", which explains how desire connects scripture, economics, theological anthropology, and the doctrine of salvation. By revealing the mechanics of desire and Jesus's saving grace, churches and congregations can better align their networks for the common good within market economies.

Father Gawain has also been involved with the Community Good Episcopal Federal Credit Union in New York City, a new sister credit union set up to provide fair and affordable financial services within the Episcopal community, including to rural and migrant families.

We reconnected with Father Gawain this year through the New York State Community Equity Agenda. It is great to connect with old friends and fellow travelers! Inclusiv Credit Unions

Music, dance, art, and small businesses will fill the street starting at 11:00am. Don't forget to meet your furriest neighbors at the opening Pet Parade!

For years we've been fighting predatory payday lending including online payday lenders that like to call themselves "earned wage access" apps. These apps claim they are providing necessary access to capital for working people, while charging extraordinary interest rates like payday lenders or more.

This article from In Debt, a project of Protect Borrowers, shares how online lender Dave (this is a company, not a person) is facing investigations from states around the country including New York, while at the same time working to increase fees and lending to increase profits. We have been working for the last three years to ban this kind of lending in New York with the End Loan Sharking Act and the Stop Taking Our Pay Act.
