🚨 TAX SEASON SURVIVAL AWARD 🚨

This year’s MVP goes to… 🥁🥁🥁

✨ MELANY ✨

While the rest of us were drowning in tax returns, extension requests, missing W-2s, forgotten 1099s, and clients who swore they uploaded their documents (they didn’t 😅), Melany was holding TaxSpace together with sheer determination, patience, and approximately 47 browser tabs.

📞 Answering calls.
📧 Responding to emails.
📅 Scheduling appointments.
😇 Keeping Jessica from completely losing her mind.

There were days when Melany was basically an air traffic controller for tax returns, directing hundreds of clients through the chaos of tax season.

We’re still not entirely sure if she’s human or just a highly advanced client-care robot powered by cafecito and positive vibes.

Happy 14th Wedding Anniversary to the TaxSpace handyman / most valuable employee and I. 🤣

Over the last 14 years we’ve survived:

❤️ raising 5 kids (blended family)
🎓 2 master’s degrees
💼 Multiple promotions
🚪 Starting new jobs
👋 Quitting old jobs
🏠 Home projects
🐾 More pets than we planned for
📚 Endless studying
📈 Building a business from the ground up

Along the way, he’s also served as my:
✔️ In-house therapist
✔️ Food delivery driver
✔️ Furniture assembler
✔️ IT support specialist
✔️ TaxSpace maintenance department
✔️ Sounding board for every crazy business idea I’ve ever had

When we got married, I’m pretty sure neither of us expected that one day he’d be helping me move office furniture, hanging signs, assembling desks, and listening to daily updates about bookkeeping, taxes, payroll, grants, and website redesigns.

His compensation package currently includes my love, occasional public recognition, and whatever leftovers are in the fridge.

14 years later, he’s still my favorite person to come home to.

We’re excited to share that TaxSpace has been selected as a recipient of the City of Philadelphia’s Catalyst Fund Grant, administered by the Pennsylvania CDFI Network.

This investment will support the continued growth of TaxSpace through upgraded technology, operational systems, staff training, and expanded infrastructure designed to better serve entrepreneurs, individuals, and small businesses across Philadelphia.

As a Latina-owned business rooted in community impact, this milestone represents more than growth, it represents the importance of accessible financial support, education, and sustainable business development for underserved communities.

The grant will help us continue building systems that improve client experience, increase capacity, strengthen financial operations, and expand the educational and advisory services we provide year-round.

Motherhood isn’t always easy, but it’s the role I’m most proud of. Between the long days, the laughs, the lessons, and the memories we’re building together, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Under the IRS’s updated refund procedures, rejected deposits are no longer automatically converted to mailed checks in many cases. We need to review the notice and you may need to update your refund payment information promptly to avoid additional delays at irs.gov/account
