Quick reminder as summer rolls on: almost half of workers don't use all their paid time off. If that's you, here's some motivation to change that.

Taking a real vacation — four days or more — has been shown to lower stress hormones and reduce long-term risk for things like heart disease and stroke. It's not indulgent, it's good medicine.

And the financial side matters too: setting aside a little money ahead of time for trips means you can actually relax once you're there, instead of stressing about the credit card bill when you get home.

So look at your calendar, pick a date, and start planning. Your body, mind, and bank account will thank you. 🌓

Brian De Mint lays out a staggering timeline in 'Bitcoin Evangelism': it took the US two full centuries to print its first $1 trillion. The next trillion took just eight years. And between 2014 and 2020 alone, the Federal Reserve's own data shows an eye-popping $10 trillion was printed. And it's gotten worse this decade!

Traditional portfolio theory relied on a simple rule: when stocks fall, bond prices rise, cushioning the blow. A Wall Street Journal analysis this week highlights why that relationship is weakening — geopolitical shocks (wars, trade conflict, extreme weather) increasingly bring inflation with them, and inflationary shocks push bond prices down rather than up.
It's a reminder that portfolio construction isn't "set it and forget it" — the assumptions behind diversification need to be revisited as the world changes.
We build client portfolios with this kind of shifting risk landscape in mind, and we regularly revisit allocation assumptions as conditions change rather than treating them as fixed. If it's been a while since your allocation was reviewed, we'd welcome the conversation

A pattern we see often with clients: families weighing whether they can afford a multi-generational trip — grandparents, parents, and kids traveling together.
When the underlying financial plan is solid, the answer is almost always yes. These trips are consistently among the best uses of retirement funds we see, not because of the cost, but because of what they return: shared time and memories a family carries for decades.
Being able to answer this kind of question with confidence, before the trip is booked, isn't a bonus feature of a financial plan. It's the point.

Being financially ready for retirement and being personally ready for it are two different things — and we see the gap often.
A well-funded retirement plan answers "can I afford to stop working." It doesn't answer "what will my life actually look like once I do." That second question gets skipped more often than it should, and it's usually the one that determines whether retirement feels good a year in.
We build it into our planning conversations directly — using questions designed to surface what actually matters to a client, not just what their portfolio can support.
If you're approaching retirement, it's worth sitting with that question yourself before the date arrives.
