Companies are buying their own stock (in a big way) - should you care?

U.S. companies announced $233.8 billion in stock buybacks in April alone — the second-highest monthly total ever.

📈 Year-to-date, buybacks have hit a record-breaking $665.1 billion, already blowing past the 2022 full-year record of $598.5 billion.

So why does this matter?

💡 Buybacks are often a sign that executives believe their stock is undervalued — it’s a vote of confidence in their own companies.

The power of compound returns can not be overstated. Here's a great illustration.

Both invest 5k each year, Investor 1 starts at 25 and stops at 34. Investor 2 starts at 35 and continues for 30 years, given the same returns, Investor 1 still ends up with more at 65.

Moral of the story:

The sooner the better.

The S&P 500 is up over 15% Year To Date. This index is generally considered the measuring stick for the overall US market performance.
