Typically there needs to be a live birth to claim a child as a dependent, but GA seems to be revising that rule. I’ll be watching to see if things evolve between now and tax filing time.

A person at least six weeks pregnant on or after July 20 through Dec. 31, 2022, can submit the fetus as a dependent on their state tax returns starting next year.

There are so many reasons why I love the holiday season. One is because I enjoy making memories with my family, especially my daughter, and partaking in the fun traditions. I think another reason I really try to slow down and enjoy all of the little things is because it’s the calm before the busyness of tax season. Because of this, I take the time to indulge in all of my favorite holiday treats and festivities.

Before you start to wind down your work hours and focus on the holidays, the next two weeks are the best time of year to start setting intentions for 2022.

I’ve found that the hardest part of intention setting is getting started. For me, reflecting on my values helps me get clear on what really matters to me as a person and business owner.

Spending just 30 minutes asking myself the following questions helps provide the clarity I need to set my intentions for the year ahead:

Why did I start my business?
What inspires me?
What makes me feel energized?
What MUST I have in my life?
What are the ideal qualities I enjoy or admire in others?
If I had to summarize myself in five words, what would they be?

If you’re having trouble getting focused on your intentions for next year, give this exercise a try and let me know how it goes!

There’s no rule that says you MUST wait until the end of the year to review your business goals and step back to look at the “big picture,” but we’ve got a few really good reasons why it works for us:

🎄 Making great use of our slowest weeks of the year
🎄 Excuse for the whole team to get together in one place during the holidays!

I love this quote by Emily Dickinson because it can be applied to more than just wealth and money. In general, the dreams and desires you have for your life won’t happen without some form of action.

What intentions are you setting and what is one small thing you can do today, tomorrow, and the next day to see that intention become reality?

One of the best parts about having a good handle on your finances is being able to feel good about giving to others and organizations you care about.

Today is Giving Tuesday! If you’ve spent a weekend taking advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, consider giving to someone or to an organization close to your heart. If you’re not in a place to give financially, donating clothes to a women and children’s shelter or cleaning out your pantry and donating to a food bank is another great way to make an impact in your community.

This is your sign to get those W-9 forms before the end of the year!

If a freelancer or contractor has helped you keep your business running this year and you’ve paid them over $600 during the tax year, make sure to get a W-9 from them with their SSN or EIN number.

The W-9 is needed so that we can prepare a 1099. The 1099 is the form the IRS uses to ensure the contractors you have paid are fully reporting their income.
