First, Illinois politicians let the state’s school-choice scholarship program expire.
Now Gov. Pritzker is keeping Illinois families locked out of the new federal tax-credit scholarship program unless he opts Illinois in.
Then they turn around and ask Lake County families to pay even more.
They are calling the proposed 1% countywide sales tax hike “property tax relief.”
But under Illinois law, property tax relief is not an eligible use of the 1% countywide school sales tax.
They are using Lake County residents’ pain from paying some of the highest property taxes in the nation to raise their taxes even more. That is a disgusting insult to taxpayers.
It also cannot be spent in the classroom on instruction, textbooks, curriculum, teacher pay, or general operating costs.
So what are taxpayers really getting?
A massive sales tax hike on top of the highest property taxes in America, with no additional classroom funding.
Lake County families cannot afford another tax hike, especially when private companies and consultants stand to profit while taxpayers are stuck paying the bill.
Tell local school boards: Vote NO on putting the 1% sales tax hike on the ballot.
