NATIONAL BOSS’S DAY

National Boss’s Day recognizes the hardworking boss overseeing the workplace. Employees across the United States show appreciation and thankfulness to their bosses. They remember their boss’s kindness and fairnees throughout the year, too.

Many leaders carry heavy loads. They oversee many employees and guide their careers, too. While their position holds them responsible for a department, business or organization and leading it to success, their list of responsibilities are multifaceted.

Some bosses have bosses themselves. Depending on the size on an organization, they answer to someone else. And even if the boss is owner, they still answer to the tax man, the customers and their merchants. Keeping a business running smoothly with outstanding employees requires balance.

Take time to celebrate your boss.

Bosses Day, is a secular holiday that began in 1958. Patricia Bays Haroski worked as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois when she registered “National Boss’s Day” with the United States Chamber of Commerce. She selected October 16 because it was her father’s birthday and at the time, he was also her employer! It was four years later, in 1962, that Illinois Governor, Otto Kerner, backed Haroski’s registration and officially proclaimed Boss’s day.

NATIONAL TAX DAY

2019 tax filing deadline is April 15 for 2018 tax returns.

April 15 of each year is National Tax Day. In the United States, Tax Day is a term for the day on which individual income tax returns are due to the federal government. Tax Day may also refer to April 15 for state tax returns.

Federal income tax filing deadline is midnight on April 15th of every year with extensions occurring when the 15th lands on a Saturday, Sunday or a holiday. In those circumstances, the returns are due the first succeeding day that is not a Saturday, Sunday or a holiday.

These dates can differ depending on residence as well. Some years, due to extenuating circumstances such as natural disasters larger extensions have been granted by the Federal Government.

Income tax was first collected in The United States in 1862 to fund the Civil War. It was deemed unconstitutional due to not being apportioned with conformity across the states. The United States once again enacted income tax with the 16th Amendment in 1913. At that time, the filing deadline was March 1. In 1918 the deadline was changed to March 15 and then in 1955 for the most recent change, the filing deadline was moved to April 15th. The day has come to be known as Tax Day.
