We love when our advisors share stories that shaped their careers and this week, Tom Canale did just that.

Tom spent time with high school and college students during their three day career exploration program, sharing how he started as a Northwestern Mutual intern more than 30 years ago and how that experience inspired him to build a career that blends leading, developing, and attracting the next generation of financial professionals.

He also talked about the work he does across the full spectrum of financial planning and his deep passion for special needs planning, where families often plan across multiple generations to ensure long term stability and care.

Students shadowed our Northwestern Mutual Chicago advisors and saw how financial planning supports families, business owners, and multi generational households. They also learned why financial planning matters in their own futures and how early decisions can create long term opportunity.

A favorite moment for our team: Tom’s son is part of the corporate finance club, making this experience even more meaningful.

Father’s Day gives us a moment to pause and honor the men who shaped our character, our values, and the way we show up for others.

Across our team, the stories vary: dads who built businesses from scratch, dads who taught the value of saving, dads who modeled kindness and selflessness, dads who supported every ambition. And some of us now carry those lessons forward as fathers ourselves, doing our best to guide the next generation with the same steady love.
