Be organized. Be prepared.
As Summer wraps up, you can get a head start on tax season by checking your mid-year pay stubs, tracking charitable donations, and organizing your business or personal records.
Let's get it!
Check years to date income and withholding on recent pay stubs
Adjust your W-4 withholding if your refund or tax bill last year was too large.
Make your third quarter estimated tax payments ahead of the September 15 deadline.
Create a digital or physical folder for receipts, medical expenses, and charitable gifts.
List major life changes like marriage, a new baby, or buying a home.
If you are a student (dependent) give your parents those tuition statements and receipts for school supplies; books, computers etc.
Most home improvement costs are not immediately deductible on your income tax return, but some projects can still provide tax benefits — either through direct deductions, credits, or by lowering your capital gains when you sell. Keep those receipts/ contracts.
