ADVANCED CHILD TAX CREDIT

Today, they issued guidance (see attached PDF) and self-help tools found at this link: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-announces-two-new-online-tools-to-help-families-manage-child-tax-credit-payments The payment will automatically issue to taxpayers that qualify based on their 2020 tax return.

For parents alternating dependent claim, (they didn’t claim the child(ren) in 2020 but are due to claim in 2021, the IRS hasn’t issued clear guidance, except for providing an online tool found for the parent to unenroll in the advance payment at this link: https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/advance-child-tax-credit-payments-in-2021

IR-2021-130, June 22, 2021 — The Internal Revenue Service today launched two new online tools designed to help families manage and monitor the advance monthly payments of Child Tax Credits under the American Rescue Plan.
