I wasn't supposed to make it here. And for a long time, I didn't think I would.
Growing up, the world I knew was gangs, loss, survival. That was just… life. I didn't know anything different existed for someone like me.
Then my counselor, Ms. Diaz, pulled me aside and said — apply to this program. CYLP.
I don't even know if she knew how much that moment meant. But it literally changed the direction of my life. 🙏
That summer, I saw a world where people who looked like me had goals. Had dreams. And were actually chasing them. I realized — wait. I can do that too.
I carried that with me ever since.
