Tax season is upon us and we wanted to let our clients know that the current word from the IRS is that refunds will most likely be significantly delayed this year due to Covid and related staffing issues.
Unfortunately we have no idea how delayed they will be and won’t have access to that information as it will likely be constantly changing.
Here’s what you can do after your return is filed to check the status. You can Go to IRS.gov at any time and click on “Where’s My Refund?” You will need to have the exact amount of your expected refund when visiting the website to check your refund status.

Pay your taxes. Get your refund status. Find IRS forms and answers to tax questions. We help you understand and meet your federal tax responsibilities.

Reminder to folks out there that have received Unemployment benefits during this trying time. Unemployment compensation is taxable income and they do not usually hold out enough federal income taxes (you have to elect to have them withheld) and do not hold out state income taxes. Be aware of this and make sure you hold back enough for taxes or make appropriate estimated tax payments throughout the year to avoid any potential underpayment penalties and interest. Call us if you have any questions or need us to run some numbers for you.

To ensure the safety of both our clients and our staff, Martin and Ritz will no longer allow walk-ins for the duration of this pandemic effective immediately.
We are still working hard to meet our client’s tax and other accounting needs and you may still bring all of your tax information to the office for drop off if you haven’t done so yet.
We have signs with instructions on how to safely drop off your documents on both of our entry doors and after we receive your information we will phone you to conduct a short tax interview and answer any questions that you may have.
Thank you for your patronage and understanding as we try to navigate this difficult time and keep everyone safe and healthy. We are all in this together!

If you have any questions feel free to contact our office at 304-727-5227.

With the increasing concerns regarding the Covid 19 Coronavirus, we at Martin & Ritz have made it our top priority to protect the safety and wellness of our staff and clients.
To that end we are making sure that our office is cleaned and sanitized daily with more extensive, deep cleaning and sanitizing being performed during hours that we are closed.
We are also instructing our staff to stay at home if they have a fever or show any symptoms of illness and when at work to follow all CDC guidelines for preventing the spread of this virus.
We will continue to monitor the CDC and other government recommendations and make any changes as needed.
We greatly appreciate our customers and will do everything we can to help maintain a safe environment for them at our office during these trying times.
We appreciate your business and hope that you and all of your family remain safe and well.
Thank you,

Kevin Ritz and Jim Martin.
