Another new beginning.

During my walk this morning, I had the opportunity to watch the sun come up. It was one of those moments that makes you slow down for a minute and think.

I’ve made a commitment this year to work harder on my overall health and well-being. But I’m learning that being “healthy” involves a lot more than just exercise and what we eat.

It can also mean renewing old relationships, creating healthy boundaries, deciding what really deserves our time and attention, and — most importantly — being more present and accessible to the people who count on us.

This morning’s sunrise reminded me that every day gives us another opportunity to begin again.

We don’t have to change everything overnight. Sometimes it’s simply about taking another step in the right direction.

Here’s to another new beginning.

U.S. equities edged higher last week on strong AI-driven tech earnings, though gains were limited by hawkish Fed commentary. Persistent inflation kept investors focused on the outlook for interest rates, leading to mixed Treasury performance. Meanwhile, lower oil prices helped ease some inflation concerns. On this day in 1963, a direct communication link between Washington and Moscow became operational.

After the Cuban Missile Crisis, leaders recognized something important: when the stakes are high, clear communication matters.

There may be a lesson there for families, too.

We spend years saving, investing and building an estate. But a good estate plan isn’t only about the assets you’ve accumulated.

It’s also about making sure the people you love aren’t left wondering:

• What did Mom and Dad want?
• Who should handle what?
• Where are the important documents?
• Why were certain decisions made?
• Who do we call when the time comes?

A will, trust, beneficiary designations and powers of attorney are important pieces of the puzzle. But so is something much simpler:

Communication.

Some of the greatest gifts we can leave our families aren’t measured in dollars.

Clarity, preparation and fewer unanswered questions can be part of the legacy, too.

Have the conversation while you can.

Over the past week, I’ve had the opportunity to spend time with several friends and clients who are dealing with significant health challenges.

Different people. Different circumstances. But I kept hearing a similar theme.

When people begin thinking seriously about what the next few years may look like, they rarely talk about wishing they had accumulated a little more money or watched their account balances more closely.

They talk about time.

More time with their spouse.
More time with their children and grandchildren.
More trips with family.
More dinners with old friends.
More conversations. More memories. More living.

And sometimes, there’s regret over the things they kept putting off while they were healthy enough to enjoy them.

It’s a powerful reminder of what financial planning is really supposed to accomplish.

Yes, saving matters. Investing matters. Being responsible with money matters.

But those things are the tools, not the goal.

The goal is having the freedom and confidence to spend more of our limited time on the people, relationships and experiences that matter most.

Sometimes the most important question in a financial plan isn’t:

“Do I have enough?”

Maybe it’s:

“What am I waiting for?”

Last week, U.S. markets weakened as higher Treasury yields and borrowing costs weighed on investor sentiment, especially among growth-oriented areas of the market. Inflation concerns linked to energy prices and geopolitical tensions pushed bond yields higher. Economic data was mixed, with softer consumer spending balanced by stronger business activity.
