Tuesday Insight! 🪙✨
When you get paid, what is the very first thing you do with that money?
For most people, the routine looks something like this:
1. Pay the mortgage or rent. 🏠
2. Pay the utility bills. 💡
3. Buy groceries. 🛒
4. See what’s left over at the end of the month to save or invest.
The problem with this method? More often than not, by the time we reach step 4, that "leftover" pile has mysteriously shrunk to zero. 💸
One of the most powerful mental shifts you can make in your financial journey is to flip the script and pay yourself first.
The 10% Rule 🏃♀️
Before you pay the electric company, the grocery store, or your streaming services, take the first 10% of your income and route it straight into your savings or investment accounts.
Think of it as a bill you owe to your future self. You wouldn't skip your electric bill, so why skip out on investing in your own dreams?
Make It Frictionless 🔄
The secret to making this stick is automation. If you have to manually transfer that 10% every single month, it’s easy to find an excuse to skip it. By setting up an automatic transfer on payday, the money moves before you even have a chance to miss it.
Whether you’re saving for a rainy day, a down payment, or a comfortable retirement, starting with that first 10% builds a foundation that grows over time.
