Yes it’s true! The IRS is moving away from paper checks. They want your account information to direct deposit your refund. This notice is not a scam HOWEVER, they will NOT call or email you for it and an agent CANNOT take the information from you over the phone. Make sure to include it on your take return or update it with your ID.Me account online!

Filed your taxes and didn’t provide valid bank information? Log into your Online Account to add it and get your refund faster. IRS.gov/directdeposit

I post this every year to make sure you know. Although the IRS will start accepting individual tax returns on Monday, January 26th, if you have the Earned Income Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit, your refund will be delayed. This year the IRS is expecting those refunds to be processed on March 2, 2026. (Don't shoot the messenger!)

When to expect EITC refunds
The IRS expects most early Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit refunds to be available in taxpayer bank accounts or debit card by March 2, 2026, if they choose direct deposit and there are no other issues with the return. Some taxpayers may have access to their refunds sooner depending on their financial institution’s process. Where’s My Refund? will be updated with projected deposit dates for most early EITC/ACTC refund filers by Feb. 21, 2026.

The second phase of the Chadbourne Street reconstruction project in downtown San Angelo is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 5. The City Council has approved a $13.2 million contract with Reece Albert Inc. for work on South Chadbourne Street from Beauregard Avenue to U.S. 277 Frontage road. The city also received a $5 million grant to help cover a portion of the project costs.

Phase B will continue the design and style established during Phase A, which reconstructed Chadbourne Street from Beauregard Avenue to the Concho River. The project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure. Additional improvements will feature decorative lamp posts, benches, bicycle racks and trash receptacles. Intersections and crosswalks will be rebuilt to improve safety and accessibility.

Construction will move forward one section at a time to limit disruptions, and access to businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Work is expected to take about 24 months.

First road closure
Where: Chadbourne Street from north of Beauregard Avenue to just south of College Avenue. Harris Street may have intermittent closures to through traffic.
When: Jan. 5 through early May 2026.

Businesses within the closure area will remain open and access will be provided.
