Knowledge update for unemployment compensation over the 10,200 amount received.

If a taxpayer has already filed their 2020 tax return with unemployment compensation over this amount, you will NOT have to file an amendment to recover the taxes paid. IRS will automatically make the adjustments and refund any tax due to taxpayers. If you have a state return, then yes they will need to amend only the state return.

Urgent Message For Stimulus Payments Received Direct Deposit to the wrong bank.

Your money was deposited to the bank that your tax office used to apply for a Refund Advance (Meta Bank in my case). The Banks have refused the deposit and sent the money Back to the IRS and you will now have to wait for this payment to come by check and mailed to the address on file. This may take up to two weeks. Please wait till you can either make Direct deposit changes on irs.gov or for the check in the mail. There is nothing We can do to expedite this payment. Sorry for any inconvenience, but unfortunately this is an IRS and Bank error. Because of the Advance application, whether approved or not, Tax payers who applied for a Refund Advance and chose direct deposit, your money will be in a form of a check and mailed once IRS releases them.

04/14/2020

As you know IRS has began to release automatic deposits for what we know as “the stimulus payments”. If you filed a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return and had direct deposit with income less than 10,000 then more than likely, it hit your bank this weekend. We will continue to see deposits through this week. Mid month IRS will release a link so you may update your direct deposit info if you did not provide them with an account when you filed. When available, I’ll make sure and share it.
If you are not required to file but are eligible for the corona virus tax relief, here is the link to enter your information so you can receive the stimulus payment. If you need assistance don’t hesitate to call our office and we can guid you through the process.

04/02/2020

In addition, the IRS also indicated it would provide a web-based portal in the coming weeks for taxpayers to provide direct deposit information if they didn’t provide it on either their 2018 or 2019 tax return. This portal is not yet available. Taxpayers should be on alert for phishing scams that try to take advantage of this situation.

Social Security Recipients Will Automatically Receive Economic Impact Payments

04/02/2020

The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 and Form RRB-1099 to generate $1,200 Economic Impact Payments to Social Security recipients who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. Recipients will receive these payments as a direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their benefits

04/02/2020

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service today announced that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an Economic Impact Payment. FILE YOUR TAXES TO QUALIFY FOR THESE PROVISIONS

The legislation would expand and extend unemployment benefits, send most Americans a $1,200 per person check, incentivize and compensate businesses to keep workers employed, facilitate new loans and grants to large and small businesses, increase aid to states, spend more on hospitals, offer targeted tax relief, and enact other tax and spending changes.

Though the deficit impact of the legislation is still unclear, it has been described as a $2 trillion package. In the table below, we identify $2.3 trillion of costs, which is a summary of the bill as we understand it at the time. Dollars presented here don’t necessarily equate to the ultimate deficit impact; some costs may be recovered later, such as loans that are eventually repaid.

Provision Dollar Cost
Expand & Extend Unemployment Benefits $260 billion
Boost all unemployment benefits by $600 per week, cover additional workers who would not normally be eligible, provide an additional 13 weeks of benefits, & other changes $260 billion

Issue One-Time Checks $290 billion
Provide tax rebates of $1,200/adult & $500 /child, phased out above $75,000 of income ($150,000/couple) $290 billion

Provide emergency grants for small businesses $10 billion
Issue grants related to small businesses & entrepreneurial development $1 billion

Support Loans & Loan Guarantees for Large Businesses & Governments $510 billion
Provide loans to passenger airlines $25 billion
Provide loans to cargo airlines $4 billion
Provide loans to firms vital to maintaining national security $17 billion
Provide loans to the U.S. Postal Service for operating expenses $10 billion

Form 1040 is the standard federal income tax form used to report an individual’s gross income (e.g., money, goods, property, and services). It is also known as “the long form” because it is more extensive than the shorter 1040A and 1040EZ Tax Forms. Also unlike the other tax forms, IRS Form 1040 allows taxpayers to claim numerous expenses and tax credits, itemize deductions, and adjust income. While the 1040 may take longer to complete, it benefits taxpayers by giving them more opportunities to lower their tax bills.
The 1040 Form is generally due by April 15th, unless you apply for an automatic tax extension. If you do not file by this date, you will be subject to penalties and/or late fees. You can request a tax extension by submitting IRS Tax Form 4868 by the original filing deadline (April 15)
