Ever feel like the market is messing with your emotions?

Look at the S&P 500 on Monday, 8/18. It ran up, dipped, popped, dipped again, and still closed basically flat, down about 0.01%. If that’s all you watch, it feels chaotic.

Now zoom out to year to date 2025. The S&P is up about 9.6%. The story shifts. You can see progress.

Go even wider. Over five years, the S&P is up roughly 93.8%. That is when it hits. Patience pays. Instead of stress, you feel calmer and more confident about the path forward.

That’s the power of perspective. The market is noisy in the short term, but it rewards discipline over time.

Key takeaway: align your money with your time horizon. Short-term money stays short-term. Long-term money deserves a long-term plan.

They say the best defense is a good offense, and the same can be true when it comes to your finances.

But what can be considered a strong financial offense?

One strategy would be making an investment plan and building your portfolio, as using your own wealth to incrementally build it even further is a foundational wealth building plan.

Contributing to your retirement plans early and often can also be considered good financial offense, as can strategically managing your taxes to keep as much of your hard-earned income as you can.
