For all of my self-employed folks (plus farm and rental property owners), we have a split mileage rate for 2026:

72.5 cents Jan-June
76 cents July-Dec

Whenever you come to do your taxes for 2026, you will need to know how many business miles for January-June and how many business miles for July-December!
More paperwork and record keeping! However, with the higher gas prices, they needed to increase the standard mileage rates.

Tax tip for the day: This one isn't about income tax, but rather about property taxes! For those 65 or older, you can go to the courthouse and ask that your property tax be "frozen "on your house and up to 5 acres around your home. That means that they won't charge you more than you are currently paying as long as you stay in your current home. This doesn't happen automatically when you turn 65. You have to go by the office and show them your driver's license and request that your property taxes on your home and surrounding land be frozen.

For those who filed a extension or who simply haven't filed your taxes yet, it's always best to file as soon as you can to avoid interest and penalties, even if you missed the April 15th filing day. If you need help filing, call 501 230 8514 and set up an appointment.
