WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service today announced that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an Economic Impact Payment. Instead, payments will be automatically deposited into their bank accounts.

“We want to ensure that our senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and low-income Americans receive Economic Impact Payments quickly and without undue burden,” said Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin. “Social Security recipients who are not typically required to file a tax return need to take no action, and will receive their payment directly to their bank account.”

The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 and Form RRB-1099 to generate $1,200 Economic Impact Payments to Social Security recipients who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. Recipients will receive these payments as a direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their benefits.

What is difference between business miles and commuting miles?
Generally, commuting is travel between your home and a work location. Commuting miles are a personal expense and are not deductible. Business miles are incurred when you go from one workplace to another workplace and are a deductible expense. In a typical work day as a sales rep, you go from your home to your office. - These are commuting miles.

A tax penalty for not having health insurance is still going to be included on the 2017 and 2018 federal income tax return.

If you plan on deducting automobile expenses, please keep a log. Mile IQ and Autokept are both apps that are acceptable. A calendar with your miles and destinations still works. Your fuel and repair receipts are not enough

Super busy but this needs to get out.

A month ago, Intuit stopped filing state tax returns for a few days because of reports that taxpayers were getting notices that state returns had been filed using their SSN and names when they hadn’t file their return yet. They were using Turbo Tax,

I am sure that many people breathed a sigh of relief knowing that they didn’t used Turbo Tax last year and they assumed they were in the clear. That sigh might have been a little premature.

I have just learned about taxpayers who received a large tax refund check but they haven’t prepared their 2014 tax return. They’ve used a paid preparer for the last 2 years but before then, they used Turbo Tax.

Any taxpayers who used Turbo Tax in the past should check their taxes and credit scores to see if their identity has been compromised. Don’t assume you’re safe.
