Meet IRMAA. She is not the relative you dodge at Thanksgiving, but she can be just as expensive.

If you are a higher earner heading toward Medicare, she is worth knowing about, especially the part about what quietly triggers her.

Not every meeting that helps our clients happens with our clients in the room.

Derek Januario CETF®️CBDA ® from Amplify ETFs sat down with the team this week to talk through the markets and how we can keep serving our clients well in a landscape that never sits still. Conversations like these are a big part of how we stay ahead of the questions before they reach you.

Grateful for partners who push our thinking. It makes the work we do for the families we serve that much better.

Brian and Ally Gill took a little piece of the firm to the beach with them.

They sent us this from Long Beach, CF hat along for the ride. We love seeing people we think the world of out enjoying the good stuff, and we are grateful they thought of us from the sand.

Hope everyone is getting some time outside while the summer lasts.

You cannot plan your way out of a heat wave. Matt found that out in Venice last month.

He and his wife had been talking about this trip for years, the kind you keep pushing down the list because there is always a reason it is not the right year. This was finally the year. And it was everything they hoped, right up until the heat wave rolled in.

It was the kind of heat where you plan your whole day around which side of the street has shade. A few of the things they had mapped out just did not happen. So they sat those ones out, found a cafe, drank another liter of water, and watched the city go by instead.

No amount of planning was going to change the weather. But they had thought the trip through, they were not scrambling, and that meant they could roll with it. Plans shifted and the days still worked. The heat wave turned into a story they laugh about now instead of the thing that wrecked the trip.

We see the same thing with the families we work with. You cannot plan away the hard stuff. Life has a way of handing you things that were never on the itinerary. Good planning was never going to promise you certainty. What it gives you is room, room to take a hit and keep going without tearing up everything you have been building toward.

Being ready for the weather to turn is what lets you enjoy the trip anyway.

And for what it is worth, Matt says he would not have traded a sweaty minute of it.

If you have student loans and you are married, or about to be, this one is worth understanding before tax season.

A new federal repayment program called the Repayment Assistance Plan took effect this summer, and it brings back what planners call the marriage penalty. On income-driven plans, how you file your taxes can meaningfully change your monthly payment, because filing jointly combines both spouses' incomes.

In one example from recent CNBC reporting, a borrower's payment was $730 a month filing jointly versus $146 filing separately, in a case with $110,000 in debt and incomes of $50,000 and $70,000. Your numbers will differ, but the gap is real.

The catch is that filing separately is not automatically better. It can raise your taxes, reduce deductions, and limit retirement contributions. So the right move depends on your whole situation.

It is the kind of decision worth running the numbers on before you file. If you are working through it, we are always glad to help.

You have probably heard the term "Trump Account" by now. Fewer people can actually explain what it is.

It is a new type of savings account meant to give the children in your life an early financial head start, and there are a few things worth understanding before you open one.

Matt breaks down the basics in fifteen seconds here. If you want the full picture, we walk through how it works, who it fits, and what to consider in a short video on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/K2xyeBk9cAY

Two questions worth thinking about right now.

Where are the markets actually headed through the rest of the year? And what is a new way to help the children in your life get a financial head start?

Next Wednesday, Leonel and Matt are sitting down with Adam Shanahan of Columbia Threadneedle Investments to talk through both. A clear read on where things stand, plus a look at a new savings account launching this summer, a fresh way for parents and grandparents to start building a child's future from day one.

It is live, so you can bring your own questions and ask them in real time.

Wednesday, August 5th at 4:30 PM EST

Most people claim Social Security the day they turn sixty-two. The math often says wait.

That one decision quietly shapes your income for the rest of your life, and the difference over time is bigger than most people expect.

Matt explains the tradeoff in fifteen seconds. The full breakdown, including when claiming early actually is the right move, is in our latest Purpose Post: https://www.calderonfortney.com/The-Purpose-Post.6.htm

Some of the best conversations we have with clients do not happen in a conference room.

Leonel got out on the course this week with a few of ours. Good weather, good company, and probably some questionable advice about club selection.

Knowing someone well is what makes the planning work. That is hard to do across a desk twice a year.
