Attention current business clients:
In the coming week or so, we will be contacting all clients who have utilized/can utilize Pass-through Entity tax (PTE) to set you up for new estimated taxes for 2026!

From MN Revenue:

The Minnesota Department of Revenue is reviewing the tax bill that was passed by the Minnesota Legislature and recently signed into law by Governor Tim Walz. The bill extends the Minnesota Pass-Through Entity (PTE) tax through the 2027 tax year. Minnesota PTE tax will expire for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2027.
The bill also updates estimated payment requirements for 2026 only. Businesses electing to pay PTE tax in 2026 must make four equal, on-time estimated payments.
First-quarter estimated PTE tax payments are considered timely if they are paid by the second quarter estimated payment due date.
For calendar filers, the second quarter payment is due June 15, 2026. No additional tax charge (ATC) will apply relating to estimated PTE tax due if the payment is made in full by that date.

Please read the following article related to receiving CP53E notice from IRS! A few of our clients have "erroneously" received these letters and per the article, "until further guidance is issued, the IRS is not recommending any further action".

Taxpayers and practitioners are unsure whether the CP53E notices they have received are scams or simply sent in error, a confusion heightened by the inclusion of a QR code.

From Minnesota Department of Revenue:

Keeping back-to-school shopping receipts can lead to tax time savings for Minnesota families.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue reminds parents and caregivers that they can claim valuable K-12 tax benefits at tax time next year by saving back-to-school shopping receipts for purchases made this year.

Two tax benefits can help Minnesota families pay expenses related to their child’s education: the refundable K-12 Education Credit (income limits apply) and the K-12 Education Subtraction (no income limits).

“With summer coming to a close and new school years kicking off across the state, we know that tax filing is not top of mind for most Minnesota families,” said Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart. “However, we wanted to remind parents to save those back-to-school shopping receipts so that they can claim the K-12 Education Subtraction or the K-12 Education Credit and potentially get a larger refund when filing their income taxes next year.”

To qualify, the purchases must be for educational services or required materials. The child must be attending kindergarten through 12th grade at a public, private, or qualified home school and meet other qualifications.

Save those receipts!
Remember to save your receipts to claim the credit or subtraction. Use a folder or envelope to store receipts for the upcoming tax filing season.
Most expenses for educational instruction or materials qualify, including:
• Paper
• Pens and notebooks
• Textbooks
• Rental or purchases of educational equipment such as musical instruments
• Computer hardware (hotspots, modems, and routers) and educational software (up to $200 for the subtraction and $200 for the credit) *
• After-school tutoring and educational summer camps taught by a qualified instructor
*Fees for internet service do not qualify
