Don’t let your friend’s math mess you up… $4,000 a kid is not how it works, as usual there is a maximum amount for one, two and three or more. The amount you qualify for depends on your annual income, filing status and dependent’s living situation as well as their relationship to you. Also let’s not forget that if your dependents are over 17 and you are purely self employed with no tax credits paid in throughout the year, you won’t see all of the credit that you qualify for because Uncle Sam definitely wants his money.
