A lot of business owners hear about the G-Wagon tax write-off and think:
heavy SUV = big deduction = lower taxes

And yes! Bonus depreciation can create huge upfront savings.

But here’s the part many people don’t plan for 👇

When you eventually sell that vehicle, the IRS may “recapture” some of the depreciation you claimed… and tax it as ordinary income.

So the tax savings today could create a tax bill later.

A write-off doesn’t automatically mean something is free; strategy still matters.

That’s why tax planning should go beyond viral TikTok advice. 🚗

“Stresstober” is optional. 🎃

If you extended your taxes, this is your reminder that you do not have to wait until October chaos to file.

Your accountant (and your future self) would both appreciate avoiding the last-minute scramble. 💸

The earlier you file, the less stressful tax season becomes.

Business owners: a profitable business can still lose money if your tax setup isn’t working for you. 💸

The right entity structure, accurate bookkeeping, and proactive tax strategy can make a huge difference in how much you keep.

Sole proprietorships, LLCs, and S corps are all taxed differently — which is why cookie-cutter tax prep usually isn’t enough.

You need a strategy built for your business, not just a return filed once a year. 📚

⚠️ Michigan Taxpayers: Watch Out for Erroneous Refund Checks & Tax Notices

The Michigan Department of Treasury has reportedly sent incorrect “Notices of Adjustment” and even erroneous tax refund checks to some taxpayers during the 2025 tax season.

According to reports, around 27,000 Michigan taxpayers may have received incorrect notices showing either:

•a smaller refund, or
•additional taxes owed.

Some taxpayers have also unexpectedly received paper refund checks that may have been issued by mistake.

🚨 Important:
If you receive a suspicious or unexpected Michigan state tax refund check, DO NOT cash or deposit it until you verify it with the Michigan Treasury or your tax professional.

The Michigan Association of CPAs (MICPA) is currently working with the Treasury Department to better understand the issue and determine how widespread the problem may be.

✔️ What you should do:
Review any Michigan Treasury letters carefully
Compare notices with your filed tax return
Contact your CPA or tax preparer if something looks wrong
Avoid cashing unexpected refund checks until confirmed legitimate

This appears to be a processing error affecting a limited group of taxpayers, but it’s important to stay alert.

Please share this to help other Michigan residents avoid potential tax problems.

Why May Is the Perfect Time for Tax Planning. 🚗

One of the smartest tax habits you can start right now….
Tracking your mileage correctly.

Most business owners wait until tax season to think about deductions… then end up scrambling through old texts, emails, and calendars trying to rebuild mileage logs 😅

Using a mileage tracking app like MileIQ can save time and reduce stress.

It automatically tracks your driving miles and helps separate business vs. personal trips.

Good tax planning isn’t just about filing returns, it’s about building better habits throughout the year.

Start now, not next April.

Tax deadline = DONE ✅
Tax responsibilities = not over 👀

Think April 15 was the finish line? Not quite.
👉 Filed late? You may still be able to reduce penalties by acting quickly
👉 Filed on time? That doesn’t automatically mean everything was done correctly
👉 Filed an extension? Your return was extended, not your tax payment

Here’s what most people miss:
Tax season isn’t just about filing. It’s about making sure your taxes were handled the right way.

Right now, I’m helping clients:
✔ Review returns for missed deductions or errors
✔ Respond to IRS notices
✔ Correct past filings before they become bigger problems
✔ Build smarter tax strategies for the rest of the year

Waiting until next tax season usually means:

❌ Overpaying
❌ Missing opportunities
❌ More stress later

If you’re not fully confident about how your taxes were handled this year, now is the time for a second look.

Another tax question… another “it depends” answer 😉

Here’s the quick breakdown 👇
❌ Federal income taxes? Not deductible.
✅ State & local taxes? Maybe, if you itemize (hello SALT cap).
💼 Business owner? You might have extra strategies like PTET.
👩‍💻 Self-employed? You can deduct half of your SE tax.
🏢 Business taxes (payroll, unemployment, property)? Often deductible.

Bottom line: tax answers aren’t one-size-fits-all, strategy is everything.

👉 Want to make sure you’re not missing deductions? Let’s talk.

The first time I sit down with a new client, I’m not just skimming numbers, I’m looking for the story behind them.

Here’s where I start:

1. Is your business structure actually helping you save on taxes… or quietly costing you money? 💸

2. Can I trust your bookkeeping or are we working with numbers that need cleanup first?

3. Are you staying ahead with estimated tax payments—or setting yourself up for penalties later? 💵

These might seem like small details, but they have a massive impact on your final tax bill.

Get these right, and we’re not just filing a return, we’re building a smart, strategic foundation for everything that comes next.
